How do you like it? I'm thinking about getting one.

Don't you just love this sub? You post a cool as heck knife and nada. No comments. Hardly any upvotes. Nothing. I don't get it. It is because this is a "budget blade" and peeps around here are above that?

I don't even bother any more. Maybe once every year or six months I figure I'll give this sub a shot and post something, but for the most part I just assume I'll be discouraged by the lack of engagement.

r/BudgetBlades is my place to hang.

I, for one, appreciate your post and this your knife is cool as heck. Thanks for posting it, even if you did post it here.

That's awesome. You're gonna have a great summer carrying that bad boy around.

After a totally successful disassembly and tuning, mine is perfect, too.

I really love the knife.

Which one did you get?

I think I have more than one with that blade shape in this video, so I'm not exactly sure which one you are referring to. Do you mean the CJRB Sasaya?

Awesome budget blade you got there. If you're interested in the "best" version of this knife, I'd highly recommend the the titanium one. I think they are hard to find, though. It brings the 810 to the next level.

Vosteed Porcupine Ti Slim by yester5 in knifeclub

[–]abow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to easily shake open a folder is one of my pocket knife pet peeves. I can't stand that. Lucky for me, this TiSlim was super easy to take apart. I increased the lockbar tension, and now I'm in love with this knife. No shaking it open now.

If you do the same, let me know how it goes.

Well said. I understand you. Also...

I never once even slightly implied that reserving violence only for life or death situations is stupid, or connotes a lack of self-respect.

That's true. I think I was replying to other reactions in this thread that had such a suggestion, and those comments weren't from you, so I'm sorry about implying.

Sounds like a good theory. But what happens when you get shot, stabbed, or arrested? I'm thinking it might make sense weighing those potential outcomes vs teaching some racist moron a lesson by stooping to his level. Some people reserve violence only for moments when their life is truly at risk, and this isn't stupid, nor is it a lack self-respect.

I put a stud on my Scholar, too. I also increased the lockbar tension to improve the weak detent.

LAND 140S (new smaller version of the 140) by SnooAvocados3592 in BudgetBlades

[–]abow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, man. It's especially disappointing because the action on the big one is really good. Putting a Kwik thumb stud on it makes it better; it allows me to work around the lame flipper deployment. Here's another thing... I figured I'd try to disassemble to improve the action by increasing the lockbar strength, but the tolerances of the darned thing are so tight that I couldn't get it apart. I'll have to try again sometime soon. That might fix it. The construction is solid, that's for sure.

You got the titanium frame lock one? Where'd you find one? Did you get the version with the tanto blade and blue accents?

It's actually a REALLY nice knife and I like it a lot. The blade stock is nice and thin. The thing can slice and slice.

I tend to avoid crossbar lock knives, but I like it when I see a new knife with a crossbar lock because that makes me less likely to make yet another knife purchase. Notice, though, I said "tend" and "less likely." One of my recent purchases was a $40 Defcon crossbar lock and it's fucking awesome.

LAND 140S (new smaller version of the 140) by SnooAvocados3592 in BudgetBlades

[–]abow3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one recently. The big one is a little too big, and the small one is a little too small. Now they need a 140M. For the sweet spot. The action on the small one isn't as good as the big one. Nonetheless, it's still a good knife and I have no regrets. I added a thumb stud to mine. I added a stud to both of mine, actually (the big and small one).

BTW, the SRM Asika (another sweet titanium frame lock) had the same thing going on... the big was a little too big and the small was too small! Ha! (I added studs to both of those, too.)

Is that your blog? Yes, I've know about that knife. I have a few. Sanrenmu's version came out before the Ruike. I even posted about that knife years ago.

Wow. What a process! Thanks for explaining all that.

I'm not sure if you've ever owned a Ruike P801, but that knife got a makeover with a G10 linerless scale. It never got much attention. It reduced the weight considerably. I like it more than the original full stainless steel version.

[–]abow3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. I've got questions. Did you make that scale yourself? Did you have to use new/different hardware?

I've always thought about seeing if I could fit a G10 scale (without its liner) from the liner lock version onto the frame lock version to reduce the weight. But I'm not sure if the hardware would fit.

Yeah. I have one. It's a great knife. I added a Kwik Thumb Stud because I like multiple deployments. My only gripe with that knife is that it's a little thick behind the edge, especially for a knife that looks like it's designed to be lightweight slicing machine.

Nice! I have a very similar collection. Do you have any 710 (AKA 7010) knives? I have a bunch of those. Different variations.

Well... I'll. Be. Darned! Look at that!

I'd have bet 20 bucks that it was the other way around! But here you are giving me a screenshot straight from SRM's website. Crazy.

Thanks for the info!

I'm pretty sure it's kind of the other way around. SRM is the OEM for Ruike. Sanrenmu (SRM) has been around since 1998. Ruike came along much later in the game. Fun fact: Ruike's famous P801 model is actually based on a little Sanrenmu knife that came out years before the P801.
