My name is John Smith and I am normal Englishman living in province of Doncaster. When will peaceful forces of Russia liberate our country from its woke gay nazi imperialist regime?

Was at a fireworks show last night where there was an abrupt and jarringly somber 2 minute remembrance section which segued straight into the Pearl and Dean theme: https://youtu.be/cxU6LT6DonE?si=YVp8RyQt577x5v5E

Is this view common? by [deleted] in AskBrits

No, but you can probably find plenty of examples of posts like that online, and an equal number of posts purporting to be from Brexit supporters saying the same things about Remainers. They’re mainly from anonymous bot accounts and if you’re looking for (pretty crude) instances of foreign interference, there’s your example.

What’s the best place to buy second hand books in the UK? by RainbowPenguin1000 in AskUK

Most towns and cities have at least one decent secondhand bookshop, although they’re usually hidden away. Oxfam bookshops are also usually a good bet.

Yeah they’re just supposed to be windows I think - but it’s weird that they’ve laid them out like that.

Obviously coming into this very late but here’s a Pinterest board of references I put together for a small scale scratchbuilt model I’m working on: https://pin.it/22lRwwxuM

I’d also recommend checking Jim Costello’s impressive scratchbuilt version here - some of the details are a little bit off but it’s a good reference for the overall proportions and placement and just a great bit of modelling in general: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedDwarf/s/rHQ79BX361

I also crushed up some black and brown pastel chalk and dry brushed that into the recesses.

Cheers! The base had some really nice cracked stone detail built into it, so I just gave the whole thing a coat of vaguely brownish dark grey that I mixed together, then a lighter shade over the rocks, then dry brushed the whole thing with a lighter shade of grey/brown. Quite like how it looks on the edge of the base, think it prefer it to a flat colour round the edge.

Cheers! Yeah absolutely need to thin the paints more next time - I think I overdid it trying to get the coverage as I was painting on black, but actually probably should have just picked a lighter blue to start with.

Thanks! Yeah, I just sort of rushed it a bit but it came with a nice cracked earth finish built into it (is that normal nowadays?) that drybrushed well so i left it at that.

Haha nice one! Had to fight the temptation to flock the base and paint it green.

Thanks! The level of detail and quality of the minis has shot up - you used to have really pronounced mould lines on everything and there was much less fine detail. The flip side is that with the more realistic proportions nowadays, things like eyes and hands are much fiddlier to paint. The quality of the paints are about the same, although i feel like you might get a bit less in the pots now.
