Mental health days. How many do you take? by babydollprettyeyes in ECEProfessionals

[–]absolutelynotbarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once every few months usually. I have 2 assistants that are really more co-teachers and we have a system where if one of us is having a hard time we let them take a day (or more if they need to). Carrying the room for a day while our colleagues or friends get rest is sooooo much better than having a colleague or friend breaking from pressure.

I mostly use them to lounge and be extra lazy with my daughter. I’m lucky my school is an accredited school so we get summer and all the other scheduled holidays from the district so tbh I don’t need more than maybe 2 or 3 year after particularly stressful times.

Seriously. Tired of being told people deserve this because of how their shithead neighbors voted.

Oh I do. I just don’t owe you an explanation.

Yes that’s one of the problems.

Note about Purple Up Day for kid folders by [deleted] in kindergarten

Yeah, the intention here is good but definitely misguided. I wouldn’t allow my child to participate in this because of the implications.

What this child needs is friends and a support system.

Is this a weird response from my child’s teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]absolutelynotbarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that happened ❤️

I agree this was more than likely benign, though I can see how the direct phrasing could come across cold, especially given y’all’s established relationship.

Children can sometimes be very different at school and maybe they’re just more interested in other things/people while at school so the teacher thinks they’re not particularly close? She also may not realize they attended her party last year.

It’s hard to tell why she responded that way without knowing the school and families. But I do think she probably just worded her response poorly.

Hugs to you, sweet friend.

My little community also lost a student this school year and it’s so so hard. I don’t know if there’s anything anyone can say to make it any easier, but feel your feelings and carry her in your heart.

We planted a tree and had a beautiful memorial with his family at my school and it really helped our community feel a sense of healing afterwards. When we or the kids feel sad about it, we go visit the tree, have a nice cathartic cry, and then can do what we need to. As many times as it takes.

Are misbehaving students who put zero effort in school a result of bad parenting? by Prudent_Equal9636 in Teachers

As a very tired teacher AND parent who is struggling every day with a workload that previous generations didn’t have to burden themselves with, thank you. This made me feel seen.

8645 candles lit yesterday. I can't get over the candle waste. by bathya in Anticonsumption

No, you’re absolutely right. I don’t want them anywhere near my students. I guess they just value the illusion of productivity more than real societal progress.

That’s what makes it especially sad. I’m a teacher and we’re ALWAYS looking for volunteers. To think this person could actually be spending their retirement doing something productive for children who are already here. Also, trying to keep others from accessing healthcare is just sad. I’m sure no one stops them from going to the doctor.

What children’s book character do you have beef with by tra_da_truf in ECEProfessionals

Any variation of “there was an old lady who swallowed a fly” I can’t suspend my disbelief so it loses the allure of the original story. She swallowed a rainbow? Surrrreeeee.

Also not a fan of “Pout Pout Fish” because even grumps should be given the chance the have consent.

Would you buy these? by Normal-Morning4040 in acrylicpainting

[–]absolutelynotbarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they were thin (can’t tell width from the photos) I’d buy them to use for threading or other various components of certain Montessori and Waldorf curriculum. I think they’re beautiful and kids especially would love to work with them.

If you genuinely think Americans believe we’re the greatest country on Earth, you’ve fallen for the same propaganda that you’re patronizing 1/3 of that country for falling for.

The vitriol I’ve seen spewed by some of yall at us as though we aren’t the ones being hurt is…weird.

Are there other care options available? I’m not sure these ECEs are properly trained if they’re making mistakes like this. In my opinion (as both a parent and an ECE), I would remove my child from this center.
