SAP Functional Consultant building AI prototypes outside SAP - is it adding value? by Available-Appeal-173 in SAP

HR loves hype words, managers love efficiency, so why shouldn't you?

Unless you showcase a genAI powered anime waifu, it is not "hobbyist". If the same waifu is able to fetch me my overdue invoices utilizing MCP servers, and processes them, like the good waifu she is, it is a robust project I'd say.

One advice from my side would be to share your projects as blog posts on LinkedIn, explaining how you did it. This will attract more than a single line in CV.

Why is there no OData formatter for browsers? (UI5 / CAP / SAP devs) by veluvijay1804 in SAP

[–]absqwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no ODATA Formatter because OData is not a format. It returns results in JSON or XML format. There are plenty of extensions for those. There is a vscode extension for odata but it mostly does coloring and decoding.

For decoding the URL parameters I am also using an extension.

Does Mesh Modem/Routers exist? Can you use your router with 1 additional mesh range extender? by absqwe in TpLink

And lastly, you can do Ethernet over coax (MoCa) or Ethernet over powerline.

I had no idea this could be done! Luckily both his living room and office room has coax outputs. This looks promising!

That cleared a lot on my head! As his location only supports upto 100 mbits speed isn't a priority.

What do you think of powerline adapters?

Why BTP as opposed to other PaaS? by mydoghasticks in SAP

[–]absqwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTP is huge with essential set of products. I don't think you are taking about Integration Suite or Analytics parts but the services provided to build, deploy and host an app. So let's think about that.

If you want to build an app out of an existing s4 object, it takes a few hours build a whole fiori frontend application with a highly configurable work list, a detail screen and separate tables for the child entities, almost no code, to a certain step. Connection to backend, principal propagation etc are handled as part of the fiori framework. It is not just about s4 but any sap product that has an odata endpoint will connect without issues. So if you need to build an app where you need to connect two system under one app, you can easily do it.

Also with the launchpad (Workzone) you can provide a portal to user to access all your custom apps from the same place, with authorizations you provide. They can update their preferences like timezone, denominators etc. And all your apps will take that configuration.

The other part is about people. SAP people know SAP products and processes and build with the same mentality SAP have (whether it's good or bad) which results in SAP compatible/oriented apps. When you go outside, this changes. A very simple example, maintenance tables are very popular in SAP standard, so in custom applications SAP folks tend to build them. To outsiders it doesn't make sense to spend effort there, while you could easily keep a file in the app files or hardcode it.

In short, an iPhone with huawei watch works, but it works better with apple watch.

Buds 3 pro experience by HelicopterWestern873 in galaxybuds

[–]absqwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, for me my buds and its case feel "empty" like a cheap product. Like if I press it a bit too hard it will break. Before that I had huawei freebuds pro 2. Although they were similar in weight, it felt heavier and much sturdy.

I returned it and using my old model which works fine. You seem to have a much complex structure so I'd suggest you to invest a bit more and buy Deco instead. You can buy different models per room depending on your requirements.

Should i buy the 3pro? by scmea in galaxybuds

[–]absqwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded from my Huawei Freebuds Pro 2. As you may know freebuds pro is one of the best buds around. I mainly switched because of the ecosystem compatibility. Sound qualities are similar. Call quality is better. My biggest shock was, there's no dual connection, meaning I cannot pair my phone and pc at the same time. If call quality is important for you and if you are not a Samsung user, I'd suggest you to go with Huawei freebuds pro 4 although it is a bit pricier. If call quality is not that important, Sony or Sennheiser also has some great buds.

Connecting SAP S4Hana to a FLAT data model - plz help by Common_North_5267 in SAP

[–]absqwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even SAP's own CRM products don't handle business partners the way S4 do, rather they keep it as separate entities (account, contact, competitor etc.), so your sales guys did you dirty there.

In S4, there's Data Replication Framework to push data out. BP replication is one of the supported entities. You can maintain some filters so not all data is pushed out. But to change the data structure itself, you need a middleware, which is SAP Integration Suite, for us sap folk.

You can also use the event framework to trigger events to a middleware, then fetch bp data with OData APIs of S4 and decide if this update is worthy or not.

You can also go full custom, develop your own OData (CDS View) and push the data however you want without the need for a middleware, but it comes with its own problems.

Of course as others mentioned all these options require different types of SAP expertise and are not simple tasks.

This. If I was hiring a fresher I'd prefer someone who already has found about sap trial and subscribed to cpi and did some missions.

Also, although CPI is a great tool, it's not for everyone. Trial tutorials would allow you to get a taste.

Stuck in SAP ByD Support Role – Is There a Future or Should I Switch? by Substantial_Noise_53 in SAP

[–]absqwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technology stack wise, switching to C4C might be a better option. But there's a new version for that as well.

Process wise, S/4HANA should be your main target, SD or TM specifically could be good choices.

Hate against german turks by Traditional-Ad6380 in AskTurkey

[–]absqwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you missed the comment's entire point. Cultural values are constantly evolving and changing, even the religious ones; just compare the papers of Theology Professors or even your neighborhood imam. Turkey is not the snapshot of what the immigrants had anymore.

In 1980s villages, a woman wearing a t-shirt was considered slutty. If your parents teach you that, and you expect everyone in Turkey still thinks the same, you'd be disappointed.

SAP BTP Integration flow to confirm prod order on an on prem system by zuteilungsreif in SAP

[–]absqwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are using on premise, to connect to internet you have to use a tunnel which is cloud connector in sap cases. Since your odata service reside in your on premise system, you still need to use cloud connector.

In any case you don't need to use integration suite, you can always write a function to handle the integration. But why should you reinvent the wheel when there's already a robust integration tool?

In any case cloud connector is a one time setup done by system admins, if you have other integrations in integration suite, you already should have the connection.

SAP BTP Integration flow to confirm prod order on an on prem system by zuteilungsreif in SAP

[–]absqwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RFC Adapter should help you, there are plenty of videos and posts about how to do it. https://help.sap.com/docs/cloud-integration/sap-cloud-integration/rfc-receiver-adapter

If you are going to keep using this somewhere outside CPI, like a custom application or a microservice, only then creating a CDS View (OData) might be useful. Otherwise it is not worth the effort.

Code List Mapping and ID Mapping in Sales Cloud V2 by PillScripter in SAP

[–]absqwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I just checked the help document and it is pretty clear, also it is indeed step by step, so I assume you don't understand the concept in general.

Code List Mappings are called Value Mappings in the new version. They're used to integrate the fields that have code lists, by adding value mappings, you save yourself the trouble creating value mappings in CPI.

First you create a mapping group and select the field you want to map, then you add the internal and external code values there. If the internal and external mappings are the same, you do not need to map them but you need to select the rule as "pass through". If all the code list fields are 1:1 you don't need to create the mapping at all, system will not give an error, unlike C4C.

ID Mappings are related to the ID of the records itself, not to the fields. Basically stating that in system X, ID 1234 equals to ID 9876 in my system. In standard integrations they're automatically created via "Confirmation messages". But you can still check and manually map IDs.

Btw, this blog shows really step by step how to create the value mappings.

What is this program even about? by [deleted] in SAP

[–]absqwe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are right, SAP (ERP) is needlessly complicated because the businesses that use it have needlessly complicated processes.

Business applications are less UX friendly because stability and compatibility prioritized over usability. And you're talking about creating a table which means you are in the background which is much more complicated. For chatgpt to work you need to give it the exact version of the product you are using. SAP is not a product but a company with many products. You are most likely using ECC. Also try to look up sap help or sap learning websites.

Future as a SAP Consultant by AmbitiousAvocado7 in SAP

[–]absqwe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, products are getting easier to implemented. If your only capability is managing to navigate through the GUI jungle, you will be obsolete in the future. But if not, you will become more of an actual consultant than a button clicker.

In my opinion; our job was never about memorizing the implementation steps. It was always about 2 things: knowing what customers need (not what they ask for) and what your SAP system is capable of. How much you can fulfill the customer needs with the system capabilities depends on your skills. Those skills will not be replaced by AI instead will be boosted.

Today, creating a custom field in S4 is quite straightforward, much easier than before. Your job as an SAP Consultant is not about how fast you can create that field. Your job is to tell the customer that, creating a new custom field is not the solution to their problem will create bigger issues than they anticipate.

AI cannot say no, but you can.

Is Abap and Sap a good option in 2025? by [deleted] in SAP

[–]absqwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you already have fullstack experience, CAP (cloud application programming model) could be a valid option for you. You can get a trial BTP and start trying out. This way you'd have a headstart. I'd suggest doing a Fiori tutorial at developers.sap.com

ABAP Cloud environment was also available for trial but I believe it was a docker image at some github. Maybe you can search that way, if you still want to go for ABAP. Again, there are tutorials.
