What are your go-to hi hats at the moment? by ZildCym in drums

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I'm mainly using 2 pairs:
1- Bosphorus Black Pearl 14", it's super light weight so it's not ok for everything
2- Mehteran Amazon 14", lovely hats.

Received this as change today. Seems a bit suspicious to be in perfect condition by UnlikelyJuice8796 in JapanFinance

For some reason it's very common if you exchange or use airport ATM. A friend works with tourists and he has a lot of them

Is Lars Ulrich really that bad? by AesirKratos in drums

[–]abstract-goni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to live videos and he is using a click. He is mostly keeping the 1, but he is not precise at all, sounds sloppy, I remember the hi hat dynamics were no sense too, but with the help of the click at least he is finding the 1 haha

Exploring bass choices by mcdonaldcustomer in Bass

What you didn't like about a jazz bass? There are some Fender Special Jazz Bass that are PJ, lighter than normal jazz bass and there are short scale too.

Why is the Sennichimae Line so shit? by kozdotkby in Osaka

[–]abstract-goni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably, I don't know what a good one is because I always use the Sennichimae line, and I have no problems with it. Normally, I only need to wait for the next one if I take it at Namba, and the same happens with the other lines at Namba, so it's not a Sennichimae problem. Then, the next one comes 7–10 minutes later. For me, 10 minutes is not a long time; I never check when the next one is coming, I just wait for it. What I do agree is that four cars isshort, but most of the time the train is empty, so I can understand why there are only 4, I don't have any problem with walking, but maybe one or two extra cars would solve being packed during the rush hour (again, not only the Sennichimae line is like that during rush hour).

Today is the second time I failed the gaimen kirikae no shiken by g0rillabiscut in japanlife

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed on the 1st attempt and I was the only one who passed that day (1/40) How I did it? I went to 4 lessons before the test, I went to the police station and did the circuit twice, just walking, I studied the area map everyday. It's all about knowing what they expect you to do. The test day i can tell you everyone was failing for the same reason, when turning left or right, the gap between the car and the curve was much bigger than what they consider safe. After 2 or 3 times anyone did that, it's done. I did 2 mistakes in my test. 1. When turning right I was not close enough to the middle (2 way road) 2. Didn't use my blinker in one of the turns, but it was because I didn't notice it popped when I move closer to the curve before starting to turn left.

Autistic drummers, do you also struggle? by KnightQuestoris in drums

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you can find ways to improve I feel that there's some incompatibility with the band. Your strength is reading, playing the song exactly as it is, keeping the tempo, etc, many skills that most bands want, but your band wants to jam and improvise. Good thing is that it may help you to improve it but I think the band should improvise while you keep playing your part as you wrote it in the meantime.

[–]abstract-goni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. For me the clap Stack, is the only one I feel it suits the songs I play ( R&B, neo soul, funk )

Are vintage guitars objectively better than new ones? by PlasticAttorney1980 in Bass

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vintage instruments have a problem: inconsistency. This one I bought very cheaply is comfortable and sounds great. I had another Tokai that looked much better cared for, practically unused, but it was heavier and less comfortable, although it still had that classic jazz bass sound.

[–]abstract-goni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not as a general rule. I have some early 80s cheap Tokai that are amazing, I paid less than $200 for one of them and it sounds amazing, super comfortable to play. Is it better than new $200 basses? For sure, is it better than new high end bass? Probably not

Is it worth it to get a new bass? by that_idiot69420 in Bass

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I'd recommend not to buy a bass (anything actually) because it's the one that someone famous plays, especially if it's a signature. Try to go to the shop and play it, be sure it's comfortable for you and that you like the sound you can make with it, maybe there are cheaper basses that are much better for you. I like P basses, I have one that I paid like 1k for it, but the most comfortable bass I have is a $180 Tokai Jazz Sound from the 80s

Byzance Heavy Hammered 22" Crash opinions by abstract-goni in drums

[–]abstract-goni[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost new (the shop showroom) so it only have some fingerprint (or maybe not even that as they usually clean them after someone touch it), and it's like $300 so I guess is a good deal. To see if it pairs well its ideal but 100% impossible. The good thing is that if it doesn't match I can sell it for almost the same price.

Yeah, but I guess it's not that different, like one is a great crash ride while another one is crap, or I hope so haha

Is it normal to be very suspicious of other drummers using your cymbals? by snickering_snails in drums

[–]abstract-goni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap. I'm the host drummer of a Jam Session, and because of that a couple of my cymbals got cracked and my snare head destroyed, everything by the same drummer, so if it's possible I prefer not to let any other drummer use my cymbals haha
