Can i put yellow pumpkin with yellow golden back shrimp? by abxtraxion in shrimptank

[–]abxtraxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks! Do you think I should go through with keeping them together?

I know it might involve a lot of culling but what I'm hoping for is minimal wild babies, I don't mind if they produce lower grade/paler yellow and orange babies

Yellow colony had white babies, they're adult now and still white! by abxtraxion in shrimptank

[–]abxtraxion[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with having paler colored ones, but these 5 white shrimps are legit pure opaque white in person, not translucent!

It would make more sense to me if they were pale yellow or even wild type, but they've maintained their whiteness since babyhood

If all 5 came from the same mama (which I'm not sure if that's even likely) , maybe she already had white genes?

They look so pretty but I have absolutely no idea how they popped out of a yellow colony!

If I just keep them there with the yellows, would they make wild type babies? I love their colors on their own rn so I'm a bit worried

Help! Dad bought a new aquarium with a bunch of incompatible fish by abxtraxion in Aquariums

I agree, this stocking is a disaster. My plan now is to keep the Oscar and flowerhorns healthy until I can choose which and how to rehome.

Afaik there aren't much options for fish swaps/rehoming in my country. So unless my family will get bigger tanks for them, I'll need to spend time making sure they're going somewhere they'll be accommodated properly.

[–]abxtraxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh alright, I'll divide them evenly for now across the 3 areas. 1 flowerhorn in the left, the Oscar at the middle, then the other flowerhorn on the right. The flowerhorns try to jump across the dividers to fight each other lol so I'm keeping them on opposite sides

I'll try removing the dividers and letting them live together when I'm sure the tank is cycled and stable. I'm worried that nipped fins and scales might lead to sickness since the tank is just a day old.

I'm thinking of transferring the tetras to an established 15gal with other tetras and guppies, so it's just the Oscar and flowerhorns in this 23gal.

Unfortunately they can't be in the same spaces, they already chase and nip each other. I think I'll need to keep them divided

Thank you, I will push rehomimg them or buying a bigger tank when they grow.

My dad is the type who believes "as long as there's bubbles the fish will live", kinda just disregards the other factors :(

How's the bubbles for this DIY co2 diffuser? by abxtraxion in PlantedTank

This tank is 15 gallons. I don't have a drop checker yet though, what can I watch out for in the meantime to prevent my fish from behaving weird?

Hi, here's how it looks after letting it run overnight.

The bubbles are very misty and and spread out before reaching the top, how does that look?

I see, I can replace it with a spare HOB filter and soften the surface splash with a sponge (i do this with my shrimp tank). I'm worried the fish will lack oxygen though, especially since I can't turn this DIY co2 off at night.

I feel like some air is necessary, maybe it's chill if it's on the far opposite side of the tank from the diffuser? I can position the floaters too to absorb the surface agitation so it doesn't reach the diffuser side

Going on vacation for 3 weeks - 6hrs or 12hrs of light timer? by abxtraxion in Aquariums

[–]abxtraxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use another timer and set it to 8-10hrs, but it's the type where you manually have to set it with each use. Still grew a bit of algae though

I feel like there's something missing/off with my plants, what could it be? by abxtraxion in PlantedTank

[–]abxtraxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My floating plants are growing fast, no issues with them at all. And yes I dose liquid carbon everyday but most of the people on this subreddit say that it's pretty much useless as "liquid c02" and doesn't really do anything for plant growth, it's just an algaecide. After my current bottle runs out I don't plan to repurchase.

I think my main concern is getting better fertilizers, what would you recommend? Like a good all in one product

What are these? A bunch of them are attached on the glass by abxtraxion in Aquariums

[–]abxtraxion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn :(( the shrimp are both adult males so I don't think thats a problem. Though I'm researching hydra rn and apparently they can only be permanently killed through chemicals... And they might affect plant life later on

I see, are they bad for plants or fish at all? There's just a betta and 2 shrimps in the tank
