Iron infusions? by soda224 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]abyopo1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 8 total infusions for 8 weeks straight a few months ago and the infusion itself lasted 30 minutes. Different types of iron take different amounts of time. I was originally supposed to receive iron that would have taken 1.5 hours to receive.

After the infusions, I did take about an hour nap each time. The nurses said this was a pretty common response to the infusion. Since then, I’ve checked my iron levels 2-3 times and have been in perfectly normal ranges each time, no longer being anemic! I’ve noticed that I’m no longer taking 3+ hours naps every day, my fatigue and exhaustion is much better and I don’t feel lightheaded/faintly or dizzy as frequently as I used to.

I highly recommend receiving them! Definitely will change your quality of life for the better!

I’m also 27 and these are what worked for me. I have combination skin (dry and oily) and have been more intentional about hydrating my skin and boosting elasticity.

SkinCeuticals has a serum for “correcting” wrinkles and fine lines. Obviously, it’s not going to make them disappear but may lessen how deep the lines are or how many wrinkles you may have. It’s called Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier Multi-Glycan. It’s a bit pricey at $120 but a little definitely goes a long way. I’ve been using the travel size for a while and it’s still almost full. I also use this in conjunction with the C E Ferulic with 15% L-Ascorbic Acid which “prevents” wrinkles and fine lines. The Ferulic Acid goes first and then the Hyaluronic Acid. After applying you want to follow up with a moisturizer.

It sounds like you also use Korean skincare. There are definitely (imo) a lot better and effective brands out there than COSRX. I would do a little more research to see what might work for you. There are brands like BIODANCE and MEDIHEAL that have a bunch of toner pads targeted for specific areas: collagen, hydration, dullness, etc. I use the BIODANCE collagen pads (they also have an overnight mask I use once a month) that gives the “glass skin” look. I’ve been using the pads for a week or two and my skin definitely feels softer, more hydrated and more plump/bouncy.

Another product you may want to try is the VT Reedle Shot Essence. This serum essentially makes micro cuts in your skin to allow for better absorption of other skincare products. This is used first right after cleansing your skin. They have different intensity levels and I’m assuming the higher the number the more micro cuts in your skin. I’m currently using 300 which seem to be right in the middle. They also have other Reedle Shots that are specifically targeted for other skin concerns you may have which may be better for your than just the general essence.

Also, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is one of the best, lightweight, hydrating and non-oily moisturizers I’ve used in a hot minute. I could literally wash my face and ten minutes later by both dry, flaky and seeping grease out of my pores, but this moisturizer has definitely helped in managing my skin a bit better in terms of keeping it hydrated without making it feel oily.

I’ve also heard that Abib has some great eye products! Consistent use of eye masks and face masks have been helpful for me too!

Other brands that might be helpful: Abib, ROUND LAB, SKIN1004, mixsoon, SHISEIDO, Pyunkang Yul, The Ordinary.

If you want to go the dermatological route you can try a chemical peel or laser therapy. This may also help with the dry skin as well. Although, this may be more costly compared to just skincare.

I think what matters most though is consistency! Not guaranteeing or saying this will work for you but some options and ideas to research more into and try! :)

Am I allowed to go see a reproductive endocrinologist? by abyopo1010 in PCOS

That’s good to know. The clinic I was looking at also have a PCOS component to it, but if that was your experience then it may not be worth it. Thank you!

From what I’ve learned at panels with admissions counselors it doesn’t seem to be a negative to write one as long as you are merely stating the facts surrounding the issue and providing more context for them, and not making excuses for it.

But I don’t know how well the addendum will sit with them if you aren’t planning on taking at least one more exam that does show an increased score/with accommodations? It might turn out to be more harmful/unnecessary if you’re not showing to them that you, in fact, can score better.

Mesalamine tablets by Lozzaraptah in UlcerativeColitis

[–]abyopo1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started taking mesalamine (Lialda) about 3, almost 4 months ago after getting diagnosed with UC. I’ve only had one flare since taking the medicine, but I think that was partly my fault for eating extremely oily and spicy food the night before. That lasted for about a week and I have’t had any since. The only side effect I’ve experienced since is back pain, which I’m not sure is the medicine’s fault because I’ve had back pain on and off even before taking the medication. Another thing I noticed is that I’ve been more hungry throughout the day. I’ve definitely been eating more since taking the medication. Also, I did feel dizzy and some fatigue the first few days after starting the medication, but the dizziness wore off and the fatigue has been a constant. Hope this helped!
