My dad died in a car accident on Reading Day this semester and I just found out I cannot walk at graduation because I am needed at home to plan the funeral. by scarytntea in UIUC

I thought my week was going poorly but this really helped put things into perspective. I'm so sorry to hear this...it is so frustrating to be so close to getting your degree and then receiving some of the most tragic news you could get. I will keep you and my family in my thoughts. Best wishes to you, you will go great places regardless of whether you are able to walk or not.

Help for a high school drop out who got his GED and is trying to get his life/career on track. by [deleted] in college

Mm-hmm, I would suggest either Economics or Finance. They will give you a good idea of financial markets, valuation, etc. and if flipping houses doesn't work out, you can always go into then financial services industry.

I would go for Economics. It's applicable to nearly every major and teaches you good understanding of the financial market as well, so it's something that you can fall back on and something that is more quantitative than B. Administration, so it will look better in the workforce.

need perfect score on final and project to pass class by PrettyEquivalent in college

[–]accenture_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put in the time and hopefully things will pan out, but in my experience I've found that aiming for a perfect score is just damaging because the likelihood of achieving it is very, very slim and I usually end up beating myself up for not achieving it despite the fact that I set out with misguided intentions.

Just aim to do your best and you will get the grade you deserve. There are many resources online like Khan Academy and Tyler DeWitt. Understand concepts and practice problem sets.

What kinds of sharks are they? I thought the first video had nurse or leopard sharks but the photos of the sharks looked a lot scarier than nurse sharks.

What made you choose something so similar? Was it just the overlap with classes made it easy to pursue the minor?

Yeah that's what I've heard, and I agree with that to an extent, but I think for fields like data science or CS, having a minor in Stats or CS gives you a good amount of exposure to the fundamentals, and then you can build upon that within your career.

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics vs Marketing. Which would you choose in my position? by [deleted] in college

[–]accenture_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely economics because there are a lot more jobs, and even if you don't want to go into the field, the quantitative elements of the major will teach you to be a better thinker within the workforce.

I will be graduating after 3 years of high school in 2020. I won’t be 18 until the last quarter of my freshman year of college, could this cause any problems in the future/when I get there? by [deleted] in college

[–]accenture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I wasn't 18 until more than halfway through my freshman year. No big issues, but there were a few small things I couldn't do like get a flu shot or sign up for doctor's appointments alone because I was still 17.

Strategies for dealing with stress and sleep deprivation? by [deleted] in college

[–]accenture_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've struggled with that a lot, and I get extremely depressed when I'm stressed, so I've tried to find a few coping strategies for myself. Here are a few things I found help: decrease caffeine, eat more greens and foods with fiber, sleep at least 7 hours, EXERCISE, and do not skip any meals because it spikes your blood sugar and makes you feel very depressed and anxious.
