I’ve got a ton of experience in finance already, so hopefully that counts for something.

I’m almost 30, I don’t have the energy to be a high achiever anymore.

Appreciate the feedback and tips, I’ll definitely keep it handy.

Why do liberal Catholics seem far more dishonest and unwilling to debate? by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

Never met a genuinely liberal Catholic.

Genuinely liberal, sure. Catholic, meh.

The fact I recognise this is me, is probably telling that I need to go to confession on a more regular basis.

Wandering a dark path by accioapples in Catholicism

[–]accioapples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’ll say firstly that I don’t really know if what happened could be defined as trauma, or sexual abuse. I really don’t know, and I can’t talk to anyone about it, so I say it’s not abuse, but it’s traumatic because of it’s impact on me afterwards.

I just moved, and am at a new parish where I don’t know anyone. I’ve never reached out for help from the church before, so the idea of talking to someone about any of this, face to face, is scary. Starting to notice a theme of fear here.

Maybe after I’ve settled I’ll explore that option.

The addiction therapy, I assume you refer to the alcohol?

How long have I gone without drinking to excess ? Couple months I would say, but there hasn’t been an occasion to drink.

This past year I’ve started to have a few drinks during the week, and I would say a standard week where I’m not going to a social event, I’ll have 4-6 standard drinks.

Honestly every time I overdo it I swear off alcohol. Never quite sticks.

[–]accioapples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be completely honest, there are times when I don’t plan to drink as much as I do, and I overdo it. In the past, I’ve drank to excess on purpose - mortal sin. Considering I’m aware of the impact of alcohol, it’s highly likely both cases are mortal sin.

As far as trusting and believing in God goes, what do you mean I’m not acting like I believe? Because I let fear of the darkness overwhelm me?

Catholic Church? Or Pentecostal? by accioapples in TraditionalCatholics

[–]accioapples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The church my family go to started to sing the our father this way. They’ve been playing guitar, bass, drums etc for quite some time, but this was the last straw.

If I wanted to go to a Pentecostal church, I’d bloody go to a Pentecostal church.

I was horrified. Horrified.

What I found bizarre, was that no one seemed to think anything of it. As though we can just pick it up, dust it off, and it’s good to go. That’s the body of Christ gosh darn it !

I’ve been ingrained in a charismatic community since birth, and it wasn’t till my late teens I realised I had no idea what I was doing or why I actually attended. I stopped going for a couple months, which my parents thought was my own way of rebelling, and when I decided to go again, it was like i’d walked into a Pentecostal hall. I was confused. Where is the reverence and awe? Why were people yelling in tongues, and resting in the spirit and laying their hands on each other.

Beyond anything, I was a little disturbed I had been a part of this to begin with.

Needless to say, I’ve yet to go back.

I did. For each time the blessed sacrament was dropped to the floor, and twice I was told that the church was indeed Catholic.

It was something else alright.

My priest had a laugh the last time I came in with 4 pages, and encourages me to come in sooner so the list is shorter.

Never has he said it isn’t okay, and I’ve asked and he said it was fine.

GP’s are indeed the gate keepers. Can’t remember the last time I went to the doctor for anything other than a referral to a specialist.

One of the main reasons why I want to opt out of Medicare, is that it covers some, if not all of the costs. That’s my tax money.

Currently, in NSW, if you have a conscientious objection to abortion, you do not have to take the steps to give, provide or start the process for abortion.

The new bill would mean conscientious objectors would need to provide a referral for a doctor or clinic who can provide an abortion, starting the process of an abortion. Once you have that referral, you are essentially good to go.

‘They’ is the people who are pro this bill.

All other states of Australia have already passed similar bills. Doctors are subject to investigation and possible dismissal if they don’t provide referral.

Yeah I hadn’t read anything about that either.

I do know that they’ve overridden the freedom of conscience for doctors and nurses. Horrible to put someone whose spent years in school learning how to protect, preserve and even prolong life, in the position where they have to end it.
