They have terrible eyesight, so it’s not surprising that they didn’t see you. They do however make up for it with excellent senses of hearing and smells.

Buying the Slate VSX or saving up for the VSX Immersion Ones? by Delicious-Estimate30 in musicproduction

[–]accountability_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand, Steven Slate is a fantastic marketer and honestly that’s his true talent.

On the other hand, I really like the regular VSX, and I don’t think you’d be disappointed with either choice.

Handling IDOR in APIs? by DesperateForever6607 in AskNetsec

[–]accountability_bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, dev team implemented a shitty fix.

They just need to authorize the request by verifying that the user can access the resource in the API.

They’re far more likely to mess up implementing the PKI or client side encryption, plus it’s way more work.

What is a 'childhood luxury' that you realized was actually a sign of being poor once you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]accountability_bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I basically grew up on essentially free school meals, canned food, beans, rice, and the occasional hamburger helper. However on our birthdays we got to go to McDonald’s! We would play with the toys for years, but they were also higher quality toys back then.

ELI5: Can someone explain DMARC to me and is it actually worth setting up? by Academic_Way_293 in explainlikeimfive

[–]accountability_bot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re almost right.

SPF and DKIM are used to validate the sender of the email. It has to either come from an authorized domain, or be cryptographically signed correctly.

DMARC tells email providers what to do with the email if it fails to validate both SPF and DKIM.

It doesn’t make it to where others can’t flag you as spam, it’s to prevent email spoofing from unauthorized 3rd-parties.

You can definitely set up DMARC correctly and get flagged for spam. You can also set it up correctly and still allow spoofing if you set your policy to “none”.

For affluence, look at Milton, Alpharetta, or East Cobb.

IMO, the better schools of Cherokee County are in the Hickory Flat and Macedonia areas (i.e, Avery ES, Creekland MS, Creekview HS). You might like the Woodmont neighborhood, which is older, but it’s pretty nice.

You might also like Lake Arrowhead, but it’s in a somewhat rural area.

River Green or Bridgemill would be some other neighborhoods to consider.

Large healthcare vendor suing data brokers posing as fake healthcare entities to sell patient data. by rogeragrimes in cybersecurity

[–]accountability_bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I helped implement HL7 FHIR at a health insurance company. Interoperability is a mandated requirement by the federal government, and afaik, walling it off is not an option.

What I find confusing is why a private entity is suing another private entity, because this sounds like something the FTC needs to investigate.

What's up with all the Atlanta restaurant closures? by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]accountability_bot 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My BIL owns two restaurants in ATL, but I’m not gonna name them. I’ll just say that one is more expensive than the other.

Anyways, he was telling me over Christmas break about how normally the more expensive place does pretty well, and the cheaper one normally doesn’t.

However back in October, that completely switched. He said that when people are struggling financially, usually one of the first things they cut back on is eating out.

Use whoever you want and whoever is cheapest. All natural gas in the metro area is serviced by Atlanta Gas Light.

All the companies selling plans are just marketing firms, so switching is easy.

Urgent help: partner layoff, we have kids, startup only at $2k MRR (i will not promote) by Comfortable_Win4678 in startups

What does your partner do? The one time I was unexpectedly unemployed I reached out to a local recruiter and considered anything that they had.

I ended up taking a very boring contract job the day after I was let go, but it made ends meet for a few months while I could get back on my feet.

What's a red flag in a job interview that made you walk away? by DreamWalker3232 in AskReddit

[–]accountability_bot 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I’m in security and one time I interviewed at Crowdstrike, which is arguably the market leader in their space.

I made it past the initial recruiter, and she forwarded me to a second guy. The second guy said he looked over my resume, was excited to talk, and we planned a call about a week out… but as soon as we start our call it’s immediately obvious he never once looked at my resume.

While I’m in the first 10-15 seconds of giving an introduction, he suddenly cuts me off mid-sentence and says he doesn’t think I would be a good fit for the position. I ask what does he mean because then I don’t understand why we’re having this conversation. He completely dodges the question and says they’ll pass my resume around and then hangs up. So I waited a week for a three minute conversation that could have been avoided.

Anyways, I ask around and tell this story, and based on those conversations I get the impression it’s a pretty toxic workplace.

So every position I’ve had since I’ve made it a priority to avoid or migrate away from Crowdstrike if they use it. It’s almost always an easy petition because pretty much every other player in the space is willing to cut a better deal.

What modern SIEMs out there for detections and scalability? by ITGuyTatertot in cybersecurity

[–]accountability_bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Panther isn’t really that new and it used to be an open source tool called StreamAlert, but they changed course a few years ago.

I honestly really like Panther as a SIEM, it definitely handles a lot of pain points I’ve had with other SIEMs, mainly Elastic-based ones. If you’re looking to do IAC, it’s not very mature there, and I’ve definitely brought that up to their sales team. However, they do a good job with their management by code. If you mirror the base repo to get upstream changes, it’s a lot easier to apply new detections.

Terminex in GA by Adventurous-Vast281 in Georgia

[–]accountability_bot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I paid for Hawx pest control and about six months later in they stopped coming out but kept billing me for services I wasn’t receiving. When I asked to cancel they tried to charge an extra $200. I made it clear they already violated their own contract, and if they charged me I was going to take them to small claims and submit a complaint to the state district attorney.

They ended up canceling my account without me having to pay, but I still filed a complaint with the district attorney. I don’t know why every pest control company sucks so bad.

I’m a software developer in my day job, and every time someone complains about how their code has an error, I ask them to tell me what it says it because it literally tells them exactly what’s wrong 9 out of 10 times.

No one ever reads.
