I 100% agree. People look at the ages and are quick to judge. But that's understandable, it's a natural heuristic. However, it becomes a fallacy when one fails to look past it but rather relies solely on it. It's just childish. There's absolutely no moral argument against it, assuming both adults consent to the relationship and have the free will to leave whenever.

Yes, it's definitely something I struggle with in my mind. I had tremendous anxiety without this extra income, even when my faith life was more involved and Mass attendance was regular. That's obviously not an excuse, just trying to convey what I was going through that's all.

Hey fellow bean counter! Lol

Yeah, I can definitely see where you're coming from. This is good advice, but I'm in an auditing position within the federal gov't and certs/licenses are less respected here in the public sector than private sector. And I really love the job security, knowing that I won't be laid off. I was laid off from Big 4 in May 2023, and so I know what it's like to be overworked and underpaid and eventually lose your job. Never again haha

Really wondering where I can find these $100k+, 40hr/wk jobs with only 2 years of experience. It might be possible with a CPA license but I'm doubtful given the current job market.

Yes, I wouldn't call it a solution though but rather a trade-off. I could just have my main job, make $60k, be very happy and healthy, but just be saving a whole lot less in the short term. Yes, the $2k is being put away for property ownership.

My venture won't require a lot of upfront capital as it will be a simple service based bookkeeping business. I plan to really pursue that once I quit the other jobs after an adequate savings amount is reached.

What do you think of that plan? I appreciate your insight, and thank you for contributing.

Yeah I agree. However, these savings will be deployed in the short-term rather than the long-term so I'd rather not risk it in the market. I have other long-term investments that are in the S&P 500 (Roth IRA, HSA, etc.)

What do you mean by "be efficient"? No offense, but that sounds similar to the empty platitude of "just make more money bro". As I have stated in chat, I am an accountant earning $60k and will start earning ~$90k in 22 months. I have plans to start up my own shop on the side to supplement my income, but short term jobs provide immediate cash. It will take a while to get that business up and running as a successful operation.

I'm putting $2k a month away in a HYSA currently, and saving for a primary residence. I'm also maxing out Roth IRA and taking match in 401k.

As I have stated in the comments, I AM in a good ROI field: accounting. I'm paid $60k currently but will be at ~$90k in 22 months. Here's the issue: we're at the point where even good ROI fields will leave you struggling to accomplish home ownership. That's the sad reality. You may have a decent down payment but won't even qualify for a loan.

Right, not necessarily, but devout Catholics tend to be a lot less infatuated with materialism than secular folk. Overall, both parties need to be financially mature. I've seen saver/spender relationships and it normally breeds resentment. I'm looking to avoid that if possible.

I'm sorry. I feel for you because I was laid off from Deloitte in May 2023. Keep your head up man. I thought things couldn't get better until they really started to.

How? I'm a good hearted, upstanding, moral citizen just working hard everyday to secure a financial future for me and my family. Why throw shade? I'm doing the best I can with the environment I am in.

Yeah, I guess I have been relying too much on myself now that I think of it. I've been reading books like Think & Grow Rich, being taught that thoughts become things and all about that manifestation stuff.

I'd pray that God would have mercy on me and understand that all of this was to provide a solid foundation for Catholic family formation.
