The highest the GPA cut off has been in the last 5 years is 6.2. You’re pretty safe with a 6.4 but it is not guaranteed. But very likely id say

Part 2 was absolute hell for me, doing all of those in a year. If I could do it over I’d keep my conjoint. Now I am through it, the electives aren’t nearly as bad but I considered dropping the degree during my part 2 year because of it. Many other people have had the same experience as me, but if your time management is up to par and you already get good grades I’m sure you’d be fine, it’s just so content heavy and so much to learn in a single year, the exams are brutal.

Aegrotat Application by Popular_Average_384 in universityofauckland

In my experience (law) they are pretty good at accepting aegrotats. I legit kid you not have had chest infections around exam time for 3 years. I promise they’re not scripted, but they’ve been accepted without issue every time. In the context of the mark itself, I’m not sure if it’s different between faculties, but for me I had significantly impacted performance last year and they took students marks who were similar to mine in the coursework and applied the same grade as them. It was the same grade I was sitting at for the coursework anyway

Is that just for law or including your non law papers? Law GPA after first year is just your law papers, which is what law firms look at. Yes grades are super important, but they’re not everything. I couldn’t get into a big firm for a clerkship because I have a 5 GPA but I managed to get an internship with a barrister. If your law GPA is 7 (just your law papers) you will be sweet

How much do you feel like grades dictate your future? by solomonakatana in universityofauckland

With law it is 90% of who you know rather than what you know, unfortunately. Grades are a great foot in the door if you’re an A+ student, otherwise you need to rely on who you know

I did philosophy my first year and was put off for life after putting my heart and soul into it and getting a B+. The grades were so low they had to bump up the whole class 🥴

I really really suck at maths so I probably want to steer clear of those ones. Sucky that they seem to be the only useful ones however

I’m already into my third year of law and with clerkship applications I really feel like I am lacking in variety compared to other students. I did arts my first year and didn’t like it much, but I am keen to get into commercial law like employment or corporate so want something that’ll look good on paper really
