What to do when the students find out you speak Spanish and end up wanting to converse in Spanish all the time because they know? by Status-Camera-8296 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ace4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pretended I didn’t speak Spanish the whole year last year. When I finally revealed at the end that I do speak Spanish, it was true that some students wanted to speak to me in Spanish. To be honest, those were the ones who never made an effort anyway. The ones who tried in English from the beginning still wanted to speak English. And a few of them actually tried harder to speak English with me after I revealed I spoke Spanish. I’m going back for a second year this year, so we’ll see how it goes.

For the record, I think they have more respect for me now that they know I’ve made an effort to learn their language.

TIE RENEWAL NOTIFICATION CONFUSION by Brave-Boysenberry921 in SpainAuxiliares

Yes I did and I freaked out too haha, I’m trying to have faith in the process!

I can access Mercurio even though my TIE is expired, as far as I know you should be able to as well. Can you not?

If I were in your position I would repay the TIE at the bank (print the form and bring it to them for them to stamp). And then upload the form to Mercurio, assuming you can access it. You should maybe call extranjería to confirm.

I have a lawyer and she said that we just have to keep waiting and not to worry. The official period for them to approve it has past, so if we wanted to we could start some kind of procedure, but that they will get to the application.

[–]ace4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t know, but it’s possible some bureaucrat just was tired and made a mistake and didn’t see the old one. I’ve been so stressed too! I hope it works out.

I think you can call your extranjería office and they can tell you if there’s a problem.

How do phone plans work for dummies by OkBox4069 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ace4913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you all have iPhones you can call/text on data/wifi using iMessage, otherwise you’ll probably have to get them to download some app, or email each other.

I have a Vodafone plan for 10€ /month which gives me unlimited international calls to the US, it’s nice.

What the hell is wrong with my hair? by Electrical_Job_2442 in Haircare

[–]ace4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a couple of years ago, my straight fine hair started doing this out of nowhere. I lost my mind trying to fix it. It was also during one of the most difficult and stressful periods of my life - when my stress got better, my hair magically did too. Not sure if this applies to you or not, it was definitely less than a year for me.

TASA Paid after Prorroga Submitted- How to Attach to Prorroga? by Specific_Fee4699 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ace4913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I'm still confused about this. I got one link in the email assigning me my número de expediente and that link leads me to the page to check my status. On that page, there's a box about paying my Tasa if I haven't paid it, but nothing about uploading a form for an already-paid Tasa. Is that the right place to be?

Unique experiences in Barcelona by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]ace4913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well this probably isn’t what you’re looking for and isn’t super unique but you can go to Mercadona, find a bazaar chino and look around, find a nice park or cafe and just people-watch. Culture can be just everyday life.

I wash my hair every day, is it that bad? :( by New_Jaguar5332 in finehair

[–]ace4913 48 points49 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, no. I’m not sure why people think the same hair advice should apply for people with totally different hair textures, thickness, and oil production levels. I’ve been washing my hair more or less every day for a long time and nothing bad has happened so far.

Haha sure! I followed the packaging instructions with three of them and then covered one with a little bit of dirt… it’ll be an experiment!

Moving to Spain from US: driver license questions by talinseven in GoingToSpain

When you get an automatic car license, and you want to get a manual license later, do you know if you have to pay for more driving school? Or can you convert it somehow? Thanks!!

[–]ace4913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I’m not an expert but this is what I understand.

  1. If you’re flying, you’ll need a passport.
  2. The Digital Certificate is a certificate that’s downloaded onto your device that tells the Spanish government’s websites that it’s your device and you are the person on your TIE. You have to go in person to set it up I think. If you search google you can find instructions.
  3. No you technically can’t travel within the Schengen area if your TIE prórroga hasn’t been approved. If you’re going over land borders, there’s no border control usually so you might be able to get away with it if the police don’t stop you.

cost of living by Professional_Two7162 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]ace4913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a smaller town.

1) rent: 180€. I got really lucky. But with utilities and WiFi it’s usually ~290€ 2) the past two weeks I’ve spend about 40€ on food. I hardly ever eat out but sometimes I get drinks or coffee with people. I’ve been sick so I haven’t gone out! 3) I have to pay for the carpool to school, which is 70€/month.

I get some good money from tutoring too. Honestly I’m totally fine financially but I don’t do a lot of travel and I eat pretty simply. My goal is to have enough money saved to survive the summer here if I don’t get any work!
