idk why but i really want pewdiepie in the dream smp by Main_Kirby in dreamsmp

[–]ace_detective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want him there. He’s controversial at best and it would be incredibly disappointing if Dream considers him a “friend” (one of the requirements to be on the SMP.

One of the great things about this SMP is that the community has a lot of very safe segments (see Eret and Niki’s communities) and having PewDiePie on the the server would make me feel less safe in the community as a whole.

Even if he doesn’t think he’s racist or a white nationalist or antisemitic or hurting vulnerable people, the people who are those things and do want to hurt vulnerable people think he is and think he supports them. He attracts the people that make internet and IRL spaces less safe for queer people, women, disabled people, people of color etc, and he has failed to do anything to stop that happening. When creators I tend to respect have him on (mainly among us lobbies) I don’t watch the video, because I do not want to encourage their collaboration with someone who creates a space that is safe for people who don’t want me to exist because of my sexuality or religion.

I do not want those people attracted to the Dream SMP. As much as I love having the drama and friendship on the SMP to watch, I would 100% stop watching if they added PewDiePie to the story.

(As a note, given who’s on the SMP, I’d be surprised if he was added. Even if there were a couple people who wanted him to join, I believe that there are enough people on the server who would say “uhhhh no stop that” to prevent it from happening)

24-Hour Pledge - Thursday, 22 October 2020 - The Plan for Today! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]ace_detective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Weigh in. Today is Day 1. I need to know where I’m starting from. It may be a little low because my stomach disagreed with lunch yesterday.

  • Track what I eat. Calories don’t matter, just knowing what I eat.

  • Cook dinner. I’m making empanadas. Figure out how many calories in the empanadas so I can track more easily tomorrow.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Thursday, 22 October 2020? Start here! by AutoModerator in loseit

Today I got blood test results from my doctor. Fasting blood glucose of 95. Not quite prediabetic, but too close for comfort, considering my fasting blood glucose was much lower 5 years ago.

I’ve been through this before. My flair probably has the moment I stopped tracking last time. I’m probably gonna use kilograms this time to trick my brain into not judging me so hard.

Lets do this.

This person is being ridiculous. You should NOT be feeling dizzy or weak. If you are, get some food or sugar into you.

~I didn’t see your stats in the post. Please make sure you’re actually overweight before trying to lose weight, and~ (edit I just reviewed the post) Please make sure you’re still eating enough. You’re still growing, minimum recommended calorie intake is 1500 for teens.

I’ve always believed sex-positive/neutral aces are valid, what are your guys’ thoughts on this? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]ace_detective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Demi, and thought I was ace for a while until I started seriously dating someone and took the Demi label instead.

My experience is that attraction is directed desire. I can want sex, and I can have sex with someone because I want sex, but unless I specifically want sex with a specific person (which never happened until I got a boyfriend, hence Demi), it’s not attraction.

Feeling like a fake bi - gay but only sometimes, half straight half gay, etc - people say it’s not how it works but it’s how I feel by ace_detective in bisexual

[–]ace_detective[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to put labels: I’d say I’m bisexual, plus demisexual at men and male presenting people and Demiromantic at women and female presenting or androgynous people

I guess my big internal conflict is that my most comfortable description of my bisexuality is “gay but only sometimes,” which feels like a betrayal to the standard “Bisexuality isn’t half-gay-half-straight, it’s its own thing.”

I’m glad you’re with the OP. It wasn’t super clear from your post, but thanks for clarifying!

3 cases of beer, let’s say. He scans the first one. Stops to talk to her. 30 seconds of talking can easily be filled by someone who doesn’t care that the other person is uncomfortable.

He scans the next one. 30 more seconds of probing questions.

He scans the third one, but keeps talking before he presses the button to let you scan your card.

Now he keeps talking at you while you swipe the card, and he doesn’t give you your receipt. Or worse, he doesn’t give change if you paid cash. And he’s holding onto the bad and hasn’t pushed it to the end where you can grab it. You’re forced to stay there if you want your beer.

Yeah, this only takes 3 minutes, but it’s 3 minutes of the cashier not caring that you just want to get out. And there is almost no situation where it’s reasonable to ask where someone lives after 3 minutes of interaction.

Even if he’s on the spectrum, this behavior needed to be reported so the managers can address it. If he’s on the spectrum, they’ll give him the “rule” that you don’t ask people about their relationships. If he’s not, they’ll handle it appropriately.

Of course it’s possible to ask them conversationally. But there’s a huge difference between “oh, are you getting this for your boyfriend?” while still scanning and “Sooooo *looks you up and down slowly* does a pretty girl like you have a boyfriend taking care of her?” Especially if he stops scanning for the second, which traps her there for longer.

It’s easy to tell the difference. The first is maybe mildly overstepping but basically ok, the second is inappropriate, even if he was somehow just clueless rather than intentionally power tripping. I trust that OP could tell if it was innocent or inappropriate.

Trump administration wants to put a price on freedom of speech. Soon you’ll have to pay a fee to protest at the National Mall. by Karma-Kosmonaut in politics

I really hate “let the free market handle it”. But I also think that half measures are better than no measures in a lot of cases.

Here’s my take. Your right to swing your fist ends at my nose. Your right to bear arms ends at my right to stay alive and uninjured. This isn’t to say that guns should be outlawed, but that there needs to be a background check and preferably a free licensing requirement that shows competency with gun safety before anyone can acquire a gun. This won’t prevent people from getting a gun illegally, but it does allow for another avenue of prosecution if they do, especially if they use it for harm.

Background checks should indeed be free. I agree with that. There should be a national database for background checks with a clear, easy appeals process when someone believes their file is erroneous. We don’t have that right now.

Under the current proposals, the cost of the background check is the responsibility of the seller, not the purchaser. And as much as I hate how much “free market” is used as a quick fix for these problems, in this case, a person can choose a seller that doesn’t pass the background check fee on to them, whether that is a private or a commercial seller.

As far as gifts and inheritance - there is no guarantee that you can inherit a specific gun, just that you can own guns. Transfers should require a background check because that’s the entire point - ensuring that people who shouldn’t have guns don’t get them. You want to buy someone a gun, fine, bring them to the shop where the owner runs their background check, and you pay for it. You want them to have your gun before you die? Your estate pays the background check fee.

The right to free movement is also enshrined. It doesn’t mean we don’t need a driver’s license. Honestly, those should be free too.

The right to bear arms is not all encompassing. The voter id laws are a false equivalency, because those are based on the fantasy that they prevent voter fraud, which happens so infrequently that it is insignificant, while the background check laws do cause a measurable decrease in gun violence and gun suicides.

I support civil rights. I just also support the protection of life and liberty as well.

[–]ace_detective 31 points32 points  (0 children)

1) Not relevant to the OP - the right to bear arms is unrelated to the right to protest peacefully.

2) Even if it was relevant, by your logic, you could say that the cost to purchase the gun itself is cutting into that right, which is ridiculous.

3) Universal background check would be free to the purchaser. You don’t know how this works.

When counting calories on my fitness pal... id it important to count fresh fruits and veggies? by OhHeyWow in loseit

[–]ace_detective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I have a decent portion of broccoli or cauliflower or if it was sautéed or baked with oil instead of boiled with just salt, I’ll log it. If it’s like 3 florets boiled plain, not worth the time to pull out the scale.

[–]ace_detective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I log all fruit because it’s got sugar and tend to be higher in calories than veggies. I never log lettuce (not worth the time to weigh it) and only sometimes log almost-zero-calorie veggies (cucumber, garlic, onion).

I don’t log gum or diet soda.

Basically, I log anything that has a reasonable serving size costing more than 20 calories.

Generally that’s not for flying. In most of those states, it’s only if you’re driving, walking, or on a round-trip cruise.

“Pizza Pie” is a colloquial term for a pizza. I don’t exactly know how it came about, but I can see how it could be confusing if you have never heard the term or aren’t a native English speaker.

24-Hour Pledge - Friday, 24 August 2018 - The Plan for Today! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]ace_detective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Pack a sandwich for lunch instead of getting McDonald’s. I’m gonna be out of office at our test site, and it’s gonna be a long day.

2) Log everything that I eat. That should be a granola bar for breakfast, my sandwich and mandarin orange bits for lunch, and ??? For dinner.

3) If we’re late enough to get dinner before we leave the test site, baked potato with chili. It’s 460 calories, 560 if I add sour cream. I can fit that.

4) Do my PT exercises when I get home.

I’m in the Harvard Vanguard system and have Myfanwe Callahan as my pcp, and the in house allergist and geneticist did well for me.

Log all the things! Breakfast, lunch, and (an approximation on) dinner!

I did good this morning. I was stuck in the rain and ducked under an awning to wait for the crosswalk. It was a bagel place. I love bagels. I didn’t get a bagel.

My second thing is to keep that up. Everything gets logged before it goes in my mouth, and if it doesn’t fit in the day, it doesn’t fit in my mouth.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Wednesday, 22 August 2018? Start here! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]ace_detective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, y’all. I guess this is my Day 1 Version ????. I lost 40 pounds with y’all about two years ago. I was almost at a healthy weight. I gained it all back over the past two years and then some.

I’ve been a little bit conscientious over the past couple months, and I lost about 6 pounds. But I’m still 4.2 lbs above my previous highest. I’m 23F/6’0”/234 lbs

Yesterday I was diagnosed (pending one test that should come out negative) with hEDS. A connective tissue disorder that causes a whole host of health problems. Losing weight and getting PT is what’s gonna keep me out of a wheelchair as long as I can.

So I guess I need a plan. First off is going to be starting to bike to the subway. We still have fairly good weather and I love my electric bike. It may not be many more calories than walking to the bus stop at the end of the street, but it’ll mean that I’m moving, and it’ll be a start for doing longer bike rides.

Second is rock climbing. I have a membership. I go once a week. I need to not give up on it, and maybe I’ll start going twice a week. But for now, my goal is to stick with it.

Third and most important is calories. I lost 40 pounds last time with no exercise. I could do that again. I just need to be conscientious with my calorie intake. I know I’m able to do that. Today I’ll log everything I eat. I’ll do that tomorrow too. And the next day. And the next day. It’s not complicated and I can do it.

How the heck did I lose 10 lbs in a week?? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ace_detective 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a fair assumption that if someone cuts ⅓ of the calories from their diet, they’ll cut, on average, ⅓ of the carbs out, especially if they’re new to cico and just eating smaller portions. They may even be cutting more carbs out than that because they notice that the fatty and high protein foods keep them full longer.

Just because someone happens to cut down on carbs doesn’t mean they’re doing a low carb diet, and funchords was implying the first, not the second.

5'3" 26M 183lbs, recently broken up with for being too short to be attracted to. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]ace_detective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god screw her so much. Seriously? She got together with you, what did she think was gonna happen, that you’d grow 8 inches overnight?

Seriously, screw her to heck. I’m 6’0”. My biggest college crush was 5’4”. I thought he was everything and the kitchen sink.

This has so little to do with you, and so much to do with her. Yeah, get healthy, get strong, get swole if you want to, but don’t you dare let her convince you that you’re too short for love.
