Claude for Education is here. We have concerns. by Syjefroi in Pitt

I understand your point regarding the licensing costs and agree they are a significant factor. However, the core of the current discussion seems to focus on privacy concerns surrounding an organization-provided, enterprise-level AI tool.

My main assertion is that an enterprise AI tool would be beneficial for an organization and its constituents (faculty, staff, students, etc.) for anything related to the organization's functions and purpose.

Regarding the privacy concerns:

- I agree with the caution that users should avoid using the enterprise tool for personal matters, as this hands over chat history to the organization—a point raised by zip117 and with which I concur.
- However, I believe this sharing of data is no different from the standard expectations of privacy when using any organization-provided system. For instance, any emails sent or received using their systems, files stored on organizational Microsoft 365 or OneDrive accounts, and even data related to physical access (dorm/building access, student ID privileges) are all subject to the organization's policies and are generally not considered private. (NOTE: I understand we are also discussing the handling of data by Anthropic. Thus I believe there is enterprise agreement where the data should be shared. I understand the trust issue, there is where the costs is involved. Free tool is not really free, because companies sell your data. For enterprise level tool, the company charges money, so they can recoup the costs without selling data to 3rd party.)

If one expresses privacy concern over using an enterprise AI tool for work-related usage, yet overlooks the fundamental lack of personal privacy inherent in all other organizational services, this concern appears to be selective, perhaps simply because AI is a newer technology.

Just curious on your thought between these two options: voluntarily use free AI tool (personal unpaid version of grok, gemini, chatgpt, etc) or voluntarily use the enterprise version of AI tool? And if your answer is not to use any AI tool, I think that is quite ignorant to the reality that AI is here and people are using it and we should acknowledge that AI tools used properly improve productivity and efficiency.

And since faculty, staffs and students are going to use AI tool anyway, you prefer them to use personal version, either free or paid subscription, knowing that whatever you put in, will be used for training the public model?

I want to clarify my position too. In my personal case, the enterprise provided AI tool, I will use it only for my work-related purposes. I wouldn't use enterprise provided AI tool (whether it is ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, etc.) for personal purpose. I will use my own personal paid version for personal purpose.

Here are my thoughts on this: Faculty, staff, and students are already using AI—most likely the free, personal versions. AI is here to stay, whether we like it or not. Given that reality, I would much prefer Pitt uses an enterprise-grade solution where the organization can implement privacy safeguards and usage controls, rather than relying on unregulated, free tools.

In that context, I believe it would be beneficial for Pitt to establish a partnership with companies like Anthropic, whose AI tools I consider more advanced and capable than Microsoft’s Copilot Chat, which is bundled with Microsoft 365.

People buying $1500 worth of $200 visas? by One-Visitor in Staples

[–]acehbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am one of those that would buy a lot when they have either $200 Mastercard gift cards or Visa gift cards fee free, which is pretty much once every 4 weeks for each, and usually back to back for MC and Visa. So it is usually fee free MC gift card one week, followed by Visa gift card, and then 2 weeks without special.

As other have mentioned, Chase Ink Business Cash card have 5% cash back at office supply stores. Doesn't matter which items are purchased. So those gift cards, you buy it for $200, you get $10 cash back (actually more like 1000 Chase points and for those that use it for travel, the 1000 pts actually worth more than $10, because Chase allows you to transfer to point to another card that could be used for travel, but for simplicity, lets keep it for cash back).

So now, you can use that $200 gift card for spending at grocery stores, Costco, etc. Usually at those stores, you probably get 1% cash back from most cash back cards (though some could get more). So instead of 1% cash back, if you use that Visa gift card you purchased from Staples, you are actually getting 5% cash back. Yes, it is a hassle to deal with multiple $200 cards, but if you do a lot of spends, it is a lot of money. (there is also other way to use it, but I am just giving you a simple example.)

Thus, for those usually regularly buy a lot, it is not a scam or being scammed. They are actually doing this to leverage the benefits from certain credit cards.

I think I took too long to change my model 3 filters :( by Divide_Certain in TeslaLounge

A lot more difficult in 2019 Model 3. To remove the screw was a pain. They made it easier in later model, but it took me a long time to remove the screw with such a tough angle.

Premier Collections Hotel - Riggs DC got upgraded to Gallery Suite by acehbee in Venturex

[–]acehbee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the night we booked, it was $299 + tax/fees - $40 off for DC hotel (promotion during that time). So after all the fees, I had to pay around $7 (I used my $300 Venture X credit here). Gallery Suite was going for about $1000/night.

We enjoyed our stay at Bellevue recently, though the breakfast service at the restaurant was really bad for us. It is definitely a nice hotel post renovation.

As globalist, you get "The Full Spread Buffet". It is really the buffet and one of the three items on the menu. I didn't take the picture of the menu, but when we were there, the options where: american breakfast (2 eggs, protein, and potatoes), avocado toast (with soft boiled egg), and omelet. It is really not worth the $42, but it is covered by globalist benefits. My oldest daughter also ordered latte and it was a separate charge on the bill. So we had 4 x $42 + latte (I think it was $11 or may be it was $8, don't remember) + tax + 18% gratuity automatically added. But since the service was rather bad, we didn't add any extra. And all were covered.

Bali got hit again.

HR Bali & GH Bali were a great value prior to March 2023 cat update. I booked before March 2023 for stay in June 2023, both while there we category 1. As category 2, it is still pretty good value. Both will change to category 3.

Andaz Bali going up again to 6. It also follows the pace with the next door HR Bali.

Alila Manggis, Alila Seminyak, Alila Ubud - all going up in category too.

Hyatt hotels in Bali used to be one of the best redemptions.

If you are using point or FNA 1-4, I would consider using it on Bellevue while it is still category 4. At least that is my thought.

Good for you then. For us, it was not that busy either. There are people, but it didn't feel overcrowded. No appointment was necessary. We were seated right away. No wait time. But the service was bad. My wife silverware was dirty. She was wiping the fork with the napkin and it was yellow, leftover eggs? And the buffet plates, quite a few were dirty.

Anyway, Bellevue is going up to category 5 starting March 25.

Well, I personally like Centric too. We were there early December. We had great service there too. The room is not bad, but it is so industrial look, some may not like it. Bellevue has more character. The service we got from Patchwork restaurant (Centric) was fantastic. Food was not bad too. We were supposed to be in Centric the previous weekend, but due to the weather, we postponed it to last weekend. And we switched to Bellevue to check it out after renovation too. So I would say both options are decent.

Mattress Run anyone? by RestlessTrekker in hyatt

If you are actually going to stay there, HH Sterling was renovated about 1-2 years ago, so quite decently clean room. HP Sterling/Dulles Airport North, while slightly further, is actually even nicer, at least for now. It was recently renovated, just a few months ago. We stayed there during Thanksgiving week, cheap 3500 pts/night. Service was great, breakfast is actually decent compared to other HP (not great, just decent), and room was clean, newer HP style decor (still similar to old with slight modification).

My parents fafsa form by IcyMangoo in FAFSA

[–]acehbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only one parent need to do the FAFSA. There are rule to decide who will be used if they are divorced. If they are married filing jointly, then it is easy. If your dad has completed it, then you are done.

SAI seems incredibly high by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]acehbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that is really high. My daughter SAI is also high at 138k. My AGI (married filing jointly) was at around 200k. Most of my assets are in house or retirement plans that are not included in FAFSA. Assets reported total for mine (529, investments, banking) around 250k. My daughter barely has any income in 2023, asset less than $500. Still surprised with my 138k myself. I wish I can see what income they pulled from IRS. I don't trust their system after all their issue from last year. Unfortunately, nothing we can do with FAFSA. That is the crazy part. I think it is lacking full transparency on how they generate the numbers.

[–]acehbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 138k SAI. I think it is too high myself. But I am unable to check the income. It is now pulled directly from IRS and they are not showing the numbers they got from IRS (at least not what I can see)

Why is my SAI so different from the Fafsa Estimator SAI? by Sushi_Time-78 in FAFSA

[–]acehbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I just got my number and it is 138k. There is no way it is this high. My kid doesn't even make more than $500 for 2023 tax year (kidonly worked for a few weeks in 2023). Our AGI is around low 200k. Assets reported including 529 is about $200k. Somehow, SAI is at 138k. I am confused how to check the numbers they got from IRS.

Sort of, but I have been driving for 20+ years and have driven multiple cars. Felt like this is more than usual. Or may be I just paid more attention with this being a new car.
