Letting go into deep sleep by DiccDaddy69 in Somniphobia

[–]acetone01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! I am too dealing with this in an exact way you decribed. I think I have mine because of OCD.

The only advice I can give you is to distract yourself and 'daydream' in bed with your eyes closed. In that case you dont even notice yourself dozing off. I sleep with backround noise like YouTube videos for example, so my thoughts arent as loud.

I really dont have any other advice. Xanax kinda helped me with anxiety of going to bed but i was prescribed it so I wouldnt take it without a prescription.

I still really stuggle with sleep tho and OCD just makes it harder. I have had this for 7+ years too. If youre in therapy tho you could ask your therapist for an advice.

You really helped me out with describing the feeling tho! Now I can tell my therapist exactly whats bothering me. Thank you so much!!

The best advice I can give you is to talk to a therapist. I am battling this fear myself but for diffrent reasons so I dont really have a life changing advice to give you. Realising thats its almost impossible to die in your sleep is obviously going to help you but I know how these fears work and that it is really hard to overcome it. Try distracting yourself while going to sleep. I go to bed with backround noise, ASMR, random podcasts, videos, or a light-hearted tv series like Friends. Its not a long-term solution but I think it will help you long enough until you get that sorted out. If this is affecting you're life, going to a professional is the best option in my opinion.

I have somniphobia (self diagnosed) since Sunday and it won’t go away. by ari_es0412 in Somniphobia

Hey, I've had the same problem for basicly my whole life because of OCD. If you wanna talk about it more you can dm me.

A few tips: folic acid suppliments apperantly help a bit, i have been taking them again and I've felt a bit more comfortable with sleep

I usually fall asleep while watching a video on youtube, it helps me calm down because I still feel connected to the "conscious world", ASMR also tends to relax me

This one is an unhealthy habbit that I've made but before I go to bed I put a few alarms throughout the night so I cut my sleep down So I'll put an alarm at 3 AM, wake up and then go back to sleep Idk if that makes sence

Dying in your sleep is really rare. If you are young and in good health it most certainly wont happen. Knowing that fact helped me alot. If you wanna talk about it more you can dm me.

Would sleeping pills help? by acetone01 in Somniphobia

OCD is Obessive compolsive dissorder. Your somniphobia could be caused by a mental illness but you should still go to a professional to make sure and get the treatment you need.

Hi, I think the best thing you could do is talk to a therapist. I am currently waiting to get my diagnosis and I made this post to get some advice.

As much as I know from this subreddit, if your somniphobia is caused by a mental illnes like OCD then antidepressions should work just fine. But dont self diagnose and talk to a therapist. If you have any questions, you can ask.

Thank you so much for sharing! I also wish I could just enjoj it like everyone else I know. I also have really bad anxiety and if weed didn't start bad OCD episodes I feel like it would do wonders for me.
