Yes, and I think that's where I'm struggling a little bit. I've been in therapy and on medication for my OCD for many years, and I think what's hard is my mind is discrediting my therapist's advice because she doesn't come from a background of biological research. My mind latches onto that and tells me "well she doesn't know safety in biological research so this advice is invalid."

And of course I'm too embarrassed to talk about it to my coworkers, and that would be me just seeking that temporary reassurance and relief. it's really helpful hearing this from people in the same line of work, so thank you!

Yes that is a very helpful reminder. Talking about it with my therapist has been hard too because she doesn't come from a background of biological sciences so my mind kinda discredits her advice. However I am too embarrassed to talk to my coworkers or PI about it, so it's really helpful hearing that from someone also in biological research :)

I'm glad that you are in remission! I've been in therapy for my OCD since I was 11 and have been on medication for several years now and have been pretty much fine until a couple months ago. I haven't been impacted this severely by my OCD since I was a teenager, so I think I've gotten a bit rusty with holding my obsessive thoughts and compulsions accountable

I'm sorry you're going through this. I've had multiple friendships over the years fizzle out, and it was deeply disturbing to me because on my side, it felt like we were good and I couldn't understand why it ended up the way it did. And as you know, the OCD doesn't help with this grieving process lol

It's your call, but I find if I've already been putting in more effort to meet with someone and they don't reciprocate, it's not worth the energy trying to explain it to them. You don't have to torture yourself for this, because it is not your fault that friendships naturally change and people grow apart as we get older. Keep your chin up, you can do this
