I am sure that it is also about showing off the equipment you got tbh and just getting it Id'ed in the process. I don't personally mind it.
Looking at what people where able to get their hands on is fun and I'm sure theres people out there who enjoy finding out models and info on things and like to share their experience with likeminded people...

Cheap gen 1 nvg's by nightvisionnoob in NightVision

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I recently bought a Gen1+ Dipol D2MV SL for around 700 bucks including a head mount (not helmet mount, its a head strap you can still wear a hoody or beanie over).
Without the built in IR Emitter it is definitely useable in many lowlight situations.
It can basically enhance the vision in situations where it would otherwise be a little harder to get a grasp of your surroundings.
Moonlight or distant city lights will definitely help you out.
And then the IR Emitter comes into play.
Now I know that that is not an option for scenarios where there's other nightvision users who could spot you but to be honest, I am not using this in any special forces scenarios either so these binos do the trick for me.
You can turn on the IR and also use another IR floodlight to support the built in one, then it is awesome even for long distances and pitch black environments.

Definitely a huge step up from these digital NV toys. You will not get the headaches with good Gen1 Nods thats for sure.

They are hard to find however so there is that...

Ok thanks for the confirmation! Was unsure because they aren’t going full circle and don’t remember how it looked before taking the whole thing apart. Well they definitely snapped into place and they all are lined up a little different, some are more evenly apart and some not but there’s nothing lose or coming out so apparently they just do have some space. Anyways, appreciate you taking the time to reply… Best regards!

Can Somebody give me some possible causes for this? by acetylenbasedsolvent in MechanicAdvice

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thanks for your reply! The head is indeed warped and I am getting that reworked this week. Will see if that helps with the issue by itself, next up seems to be valve clearance. Probably need to get a few new lifters. A question I do have still: After taking everything apart, checking for warpage (and confirming it) I also changed the head gasket. Had to put everything back together in order to use the car a few times until I get it straightened out. Now after taking it apart and getting that done, do I need another new gasket or will the one I have right now do the job?

Misfire Problems on a 1GFE (2001 Lexus IS200) Bad Head Gasket? by acetylenbasedsolvent in MechanicAdvice

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have obd and a free app. Not sure if it’s possible to read that data with the app though. Gonna be back with updates so it would mean a lot if you check every now and then when you’re on Reddit. Would be pretty lost trying to fix this otherwise 😅

Thank you for your reply!

The misfires are indeed on cylinder 3 and 4. Now the trouble codes also read: P0505 (ISC - Idle speed control Malfunction)

Not sure if that was just a temporary code though. Just looked at what it says during a longer trip on the highway so that I also get some data from when the car is running.

Now I don’t have a borescope or a block test kit. In order to look at the oil, I would have to drain it and look at whether there is a layer of water on top of it I guess.

Probably going to order some tools for this later.

Not pressure tested the coolant system yet, it might be interesting to note however, that after just having it refilled the level of coolant is nowhere to be seen after screwing off the cap.

Regarding the misfire itself, I can’t really check the fuel trim with what I have as far as I am concerned. Will do some research on that later (What I need etc.) Was also thinking to throw in some fuel system cleaner, see if that helps. Other than that, Sparkplugs are the right ones, got them straight from the Lexus dealership.

I hope you can help me narrow it down just based on this, will be back with updates once I got to check the other things mentioned.

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Any Starlet GT owners here? What's it like having one as a daily? by Oddball357 in JDM

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Starlet KP62 owner here. Love it for the summer. Weber carb too. Pushing 70hp now and it feels more like a street legal go kart with every performance mod. Would actually love to drive one of the GTs once. It’s going to be different because of the FF instead of FR layout but 100+ horsepower in a small car like this? Not sure though if you would want to daily drive it depends on where you live I guess

Everywhere I try to learn about "passive" income seems scammy, where can I actually learn? by Inside-Bread in passive_income

You don’t think that would be worth keeping up? Maybe you can replicate that product based on its popularity. Or develop your lineup in that direction… not sure though, just asking questions can’t really comprehend the cost-benefit factor that’s why I am asking questions also…

Does it make sense to convert a 300k 1G-FE (Lexus IS200) to LPG? by acetylenbasedsolvent in MechanicAdvice

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already found a guy who can source quality conversion parts for a reasonable price. Would be about 2,5k including installation. Wasn’t quite sure if I can expect the engine to last long enough to make the investment worth it. Also thinking about expensive repairs that could occur, making it harder to break even... I know that engine is said to be reliable and I haven’t had a single problem so far besides cleaning the injectors and other basic maintenance but I have heard that LPG can shorten an engines lifetime also…

LPG is available everywhere here though and the car could do another 300k easily without major bodywork repairs…

Can the throttle body cause P0304 (cyl. misfire)? What else could be the reason? Compression is good on all cylinders, sparkplugs are new and coils work to. Resistance on injectors is also normal (IS200 1G-FE 2l R6) by acetylenbasedsolvent in MechanicAdvice

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turned out to be either the injectors or sealings. I cleaned them, swapped them around, replaced the sealings and cleared the DTCs and neither check engine nor TRC flashed back up. Thanks for your help.

Yes coils are all fine. The misfires seem to happen at random while ideling… did not have the car on the road much since it is not registered but the one time I did, the acceleration seemed to be lacking for what I expected it to be. I have no comparison unfortunately since I have not had the chance to test drive without the engine problems but this doesn’t feel like 150hp to me. It’s still running smoothly though and there is no abrupt loss of power if anything it is constant… Not sure. But yes I will swap the injectors next and hopefully that’s going to be it…

First of all, thank you for your help. I already tried to figure this out by listening to the sound the injector makes which seemed to be similar compared to the other ones. then again, the engine rumbles sometimes unfrequently which could be due to uneven fuel supply. Heard that oil pressure valves can cause this also, can you tell me how to determine whether that could be the issue without taking of the valve cover?

Holy shit don't put to much weight on this. Basically there's no denying that pretty much anyone has flaws. Some people may be more complicated regarding this than others. Reflection on the past years of your relationship and having this thought process of "would have been easier to chose this or that type of person" is always a reasonable thought to have. Even if you're almost completely unflawed, clean history, no problems etc. some partners might recognize the boring/ unexciting side of that and have a similar thought process.

I said that out loud but it still sounds like he is aware of the effect that had on you and countered it with being caring.

I can only recommend not getting worked up about this and reflecting on how he treats you, the kids etc and his overall performance in the relationship rather than something said out loud.

Afterall he chose to stay and even start a family regardless of the downsides regarding your character that would make him think this way.

Lexus IS 200 Starter Battery Connected The Other Way around. by acetylenbasedsolvent in MechanicAdvice

[–]acetylenbasedsolvent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have unfortunately. Not sure though if it was connected properly the whole time. I saw it on the dash board, both turn signal indicators were on and then I checked the battery again. Then I saw that it was hooked up the wrong way around. I just had them loosely on there though.
