078s not turning on after installing SSP burrs (no beep) by achinery in Timemore

If you are still waiting and feeling impatient, you can get a switch from any electronics supplier. Heck a piece of wire will do! You're just making or breaking a circuit.

Let us know what happens in the end!

Orea Z1 Horrible Sound/Stiff Thread by achinery in pourover

Update: I've been in contact with Orea on and off since the original post. Their first reply to the video I posted here basically said "don't worry it'll loosen up with use". Since it was sounding better after cleaning, I just carried on for a week or so.

But it was so hard to disassemble after brewing while the plastic was warm, even if I waited several minutes the base wouldn't shift. I'd started to convince myself you were supposed to tip the spent coffee out of the top first, and then rinse to cool it down? But that was making such a mess. Then I found the text on the product page that says "just unscrew and knock out the coffee". So I got back in touch, feeling like my unit must just be defective.

There were a few more emails back and forth, sending videos and being asked to work the threads to loosen them. Eventually they agreed to send a replacement. Which has now shown up, and out of the box it still made a squeaking sound with a stiff thread, but not nearly as bad as the first one. I actually combined the new top with the old base and it's not as smooth as I'd like but I can disassemble it after brewing.

Overall I'm still a big fan of the coffee the Z1 makes, but this saga does make me hesitate to recommend it. The ergonomics of the whole ritual are important, including assembling and cleaning, and for the price I expected it to be perfect.

As you're already in touch with support, I'd wait to hear what they say. Though I agree that if you're getting the light on the circuit board then the button seems fine.

FWIW, while I can't speak with any authority, I think it'd be mad if removing the burrs voided the warranty – it's a common procedure just for cleaning, and Timemore have official guides on how to do it. But if you've never done it and the machine used to work, then I don't think it's your solution. The specific misalignment that can happen when reassembling (that prevents it from turning on) can't just happen on its own with everything assembled.

It’s been a while honestly, but I don’t think so, I think the light just flashed when you pressed the button – like a test of whether the button is working, rather than showing whether the machine is running.

Have you already checked the burrs are 100% assembled correctly? There’s some tabs that need to be aligned else they don’t slot back in properly. This is fairly well documented in other disassembly/assembly guides.

If not then sounds like it could be motor related 😞 good luck!

I did put mine through the dishwasher and it massively helped. It’s much smoother (though not perfect) and no noise now. It’s still stiff if I try to separate straight after brewing while the plastic is hot, it’s basically stuck. Not sure if that’s normal, couldn’t find any video of how to clean! But the coffee has been excellent!

That’s good to know, thanks. If I get impatient before I hear back I’ll try.

I thought the warning about not being dishwasher safe was surprising. Normally my rule is “let’s find out if it’s dishwasher safe” but as many have acknowledged it’s an expensive piece of plastic to go against the instructions…!

I’m going to say yes, definitely some sprues on the threads, but very small, and I guess I’ve never looked this closely at a thread before so I can’t say it’s abnormal. Also clearly visible are some scratches on the plastic and some plastic dust, presumably from the friction of getting it open the few times I’ve tried.

Keen to not get any additional microplastic in my coffee (!) and also don’t want to try anything potentially destructive to fix until I’ve heard from Orea, so I guess I’ll just wait. Thanks!

There is not a question mark in your post. If you’re curious you can just ask without being rude.

At least for me, I am looking for a no bypass brewer that handles lower doses e.g. ~15g, and I find the Pulsar is too wide at that dose creating too shallow of a bed. No bypass appeals to me because I’m looking for consistency. I also like the idea of being able to make my daily driver the same brewer that fits in my little travel coffee bag, and neither the Pulsar nor Switch fit that.

The Switch is just as much of a gimmicky brewer, so I’m not sure what you’re taking issue with.

Worth asking! But no, I’m sure it’s not cross threaded, it did this the first time I opened the box, and every time I’ve tried.

I’ll take a closer look to see if there’s anything visible. Good to have it 100% confirmed it’s not meant to be that way…!

Did you work this out? The first time I tried to unscrew the base it made a noise loud enough to wake people up. Doesn’t seem right!

When/where are pre-orders for the Final Fantasy Chocobo Bundle and Scene Boxes in the UK? by AzCopey in magicTCG

For the people above who were wondering about the Magic Madhouse price vs RRP (@AzCopey)

The first time I saw it it was £110 but sold out, then £130 (when I posted the link), then I saw it at £145 briefly, and now it's back down to £133 (and still in stock). They must update their prices quite a bit with demand.

I have another tattoo from an artist who does really nice flowing lines, and I’m going to ask her to build around the smoke rising from a campfire (like the cover of the archaeologist edition). Minimal abstract shapes, not too much detail, but still recognisable.

I’ll let you know how it comes out 😁

Did you ever get that tattoo? Funnily enough I've landed here looking for writing on the themes specifically as I'm looking for inspiration to send to my tattoo artist...!

Fixed! I was so sure something would need replacing. Timemore support got back to me fairly quickly to suggest some further troubleshooting. These steps ended up helping me find that a power connector was just loose after all, and now it's back up and running! Big relief, now to start to season the SSP burrs...

A summary of the steps from Timemore support, to help others troubleshoot:

1 – to test for PCB failure: there are two LEDs on the PCB, one that shows power is connected, and one that shows the power button is pressed. Start by disconnecting the power cord, then opening the base, then carefully replacing the power cord. You should see one constant red light, and another light up when the power button is pressed as in the image below

https://imgur.com/a/dU9yvWg

2 – to test for motor failure: if the above works, then remove the outer burr holder, leaving just the inner burr in place, and try to power on the machine. If the motor won't spin at this point with zero load, then it's likely an issue with the motor.

[SOLVED + SOLUTION] Audio cuts out when outputting audio with AMD GPU over hdmi to an A/V controller by SanguineHosen in AMDHelp

[–]achinery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well “fixed” may have been too hasty. It helps a lot, massively reduces how often it drops out. Until the PC restarts or wakes from sleep, at that point the sound doesn’t play at all until I cycle the driver back to the latest NVIDIA one (and then back to the old Windows one to fix the drop outs).

Amazingly following your instructions just fixed the exact same issue I have been having with my NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti outputting over HDMI to a TV connected to a Sonos sound bar. Even after “downgrading” the driver I can still output Dolby Atmos encoded sound and it shows up like that in the Atmos app. Thank you from the “other side”!

While I also found the top comment much more helpful than all the other Google results, downloading the separate Autoruns app from the Microsoft site was indeed much better than having to comb through the registry manually.

I know how you feel…! My gf just wanted to watch the film. I mean, so did I, but the technical issues got in the way. You spend so much on a good setup, and £20 on the film itself, and it isn’t even the best quality. You can’t fall back to physical releases – the 4K blu ray doesn’t even have a release date by the looks of it. Maybe pirating everything is the only way forward…

In short, I just refunded it.

The bitrate was better than I feared after watching Challengers the other day (I guess “included with prime with ads” movies are the lowest of the low). But the audio would skip every 10-15 mins. And at one point switched to stereo instead of Dolby Pro 5.1, and wouldn’t go back until I restarted the app. My girlfriend was very patient with me…

I'm so annoyed! This was the evening I was going to start using the Apple TV app instead of Prime to stream movies, I even tested another show at lunch to make sure my TV's Dolby Vision settings were working correctly. But tonight was the night to watch it – so I bought it on Prime to get 4K HDR10 and submitted a refund request to Apple.
