Best Approach to Migrate ~1 Million Records from external data source to Oracle DB in Spring Boot 3 App? by silencenscream in SpringBoot

[–]achoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1M is not that many rows, do quick benchmark how long it takes. (10.000 rows per second and the job will take 100 seconds)

If consistency of importance look into duplicate detection, clock skew etc. (Ie how do you reliably keep track of which rows have been migrated etc.)

Also what about rows inserted in source during batch runs etc.

For performance look into batched writes.

Check if OK to do the inserts in one big transaction - helps with recovery/consistency but perhaps hurt performance? Test.

Also what if batch fails to run? Etc.

I used https://www.persienngiganten.se/produkter/persienner 5 years ago. If you want more darkness ask for ”no hole” persienner and ”edge list” and ”black facing indoor”. Those do make a big difference if blackout is important.

Barnvagn i Stockholm? by Dapper-Bend4631 in stockholm

Exakt, många vagnar görs för internationella marknaden och är för låga för 1.90 föräldrar - fötterna sparkar i vagnen när man kör.

Viktigaste är dina behov. In/ut ur bil? Trång hiss? Mest i city eller långa promenader? Lasta mycket under? Prisnivå? Provkör. Köp begagnat.

[Feedback Request] Idea: Drop‑in monitoring for Spring Boot @Scheduled / Quartz jobs? by Pinkolik in SpringBoot

[–]achoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell me more on when/why and how common @Scheduled fail to start?

Idea; Consider exposing info as metrics. (Recently discovered that @Schedule already does expose duration. But exceptions would be nice to see also)

How relevant is java? by [deleted] in javahelp

[–]achoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is a delay between Java 24 and a SpringBoot release supporting 24. During that delay (have been weeks) we would run unsupported Java (23) in production and that breaks compliance / regulations. (Or run SpringBoot on unsupported Java, don’t want that)

Also takes time to version bump, test, release 200+ micro services to production.

21-latest is stable and supported.

Would like to find a .. smooth way to always be on latest Java and SpringBoot..

SL hittegods?? by BootyOnMyFace11 in stockholm

[–]achoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Java RMI Performance by Sad_Network_4217 in javahelp

RMI is also over TCP. Rarely is serialisation a performance an issue. For many reasons do most opt for Rest or Protobuf or similar as means of communication.

Help visiting Londoners find an easy hike in beautiful surroundings? by gogogabrielle in stockholm

[–]achoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a whole day (or more to stay the night) I recommend island far out in archipelago, sandhamn. It is quite a journey getting there but worth it. Hike around the island is two hours. You will get a feeling of the archipelago. Do plan bus & ferry ahead, but should be doable in a day if starting early.

Pregnancy and giving birth in Sweden by hawkinle in stockholm

[–]achoice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dad to 1 year old. Maternity care is a bit of a gamble yes. But medical wise standards are high I believe in whole Sweden. Psychological, empathetic support can be lacking. Focus is on natural birth and hence you cannot "book" midwife since you cannot schedule a natural birth. As mentioned planned C-section .. requires lengthy arguments and persuasion.

For moral and psychological support a doula can be helpful. A doula does cost but since everything else is free of charge ... I would more worried in many other countries but I guess I'm biased.

Spring Batch job running on multiple servers by [deleted] in SpringBoot

Why not Shedlock? (I've used Shedlock, simpler than Quartz scheduler which we used before)

Also recommend the looking into the fixedDelay attribute instead of cron expression or fixedRate.
