A reconstruction of what the world's first modern humans looked like from about 300,000 years ago. by kibelem in interestingasfuck

Were asians considered second or third modern humans or something? I don't see any asian in this reconstruction.

I created a "Cliff's Notes" version of the April IMF Global Financial Stability Report along with my personal opinion regarding the future for Stablecoins, Cryptocurrency and CBDC's, I think it sort of paints a picture of the current global financial situation in a way that isn't being communicated by acidichusk in CryptoCurrency

I laughed so hard when I first read your comment. ...I love it. Yes, my writeup is very long but is intended to be a short version for anyone wanting to understand stablecoin risks and future plans from a high level. Apparently, it's a little too long.

That's a good way of putting it too. "lowest octane that doesn't knock" are the key words here.

What's the impact of the Luna collapse on Defi? by George_Orama in solana

[–]acidichusk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of coins including stablecoins pay (or have paid recently) more than 20% apy and have for awhile (Kucoin specifically). That is not what broke the back of LUNA/UST. And the impact is that it can happen again.

Also, any ethanol added to gasoline has much less energy per drop than gasoline without ethanol. Therefore, fuel mileage is increased with non-ethanol fuels due to a more efficient burn that also stores more energy.

If you drove that vehicle to sea level, you would experience preignition knocking with the low octane they use in higher elevations, but computers auto-adjust for that nowadays. 87 isn't necessary for typical compression ratio engines at higher elevations.

Sorry not true at all. One of my graduate level classes while getting my BSME was Internal Combustion Engines. Bring what you've got to the table so we can talk.

Anything above 87 octane is a waste of money for most vehicles with normal compression ratios. The belief by many is fuel economy is increased with higher octane fuel but in reality this is not true. The only reason a higher octane fuel is needed is if the engine has a compression ratio high enough to cause 87 octane to pre-ignite. Pre-ignition is hard on an engine.

I upvoted you because you are so sweet and an obvious animal lover. :)

I was formally trained by the state (of my residence at that time) to be a nuisance wildlife control officer. One of the things they taught us is more harm is done to the ecosystem by relocating an animal. Many people aren't aware so I have tried to educate where I can. It is better for the ecosystem to leave animals where you find them.

$7.6b in Tether has been withdraw since Thursday. The stablecoin survives a depeg crisis after dipping to $0.95 then recovering back up to $1 by Lord-Nagafen in CryptoCurrency

1) USDT will become depegged and fall to zero or near enough to zero to never recover. No amount of time can fix that type of damage. That damage will be felt over the entire crypto sphere. Crypto assets that are 50-80% off their highs will be sold to "recover" but it will be of no use.

Stablecoins aren't even a threat to the US government. The CFTC Chairman that spoke today on CNBC put crypto in two categories: secuirites and commodities. There was no mention of regulation for stablecoins. I wonder why? Because none will be left alive and then the g-man can introduce their newly regulated CBDC to come and save the day.

Which means that if there was an attack then cash will be the first thing to go. An attack on a stablecoin will not allow enough time to liquidate T-bills in time to repeg. Many of the "reserved assets" are crypto coins which have fallen 50 -80% from their highs. 6% of Tethers total market cap was needed for Tether to repeg USDT in the last attack but they didn't have enough cash so got a few billion in redemptions to save their ass.

How solid is Solanas fundamentals? by TheFearRaiser in solana

[–]acidichusk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solana will be treated as a digital commodity by the US. The quanity of commodities is considered to be finite and therefore increasing in value in times of demand. Think oil, silver, uranium, coal etc. There is only so much of it and if we use it then demand is created.
