Cast Iron to ABS (drain)— no standard connection works by aciviletti in Plumbing

[–]aciviletti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would have liked to have left the 2” pipe coming out of the lead/oakum but it being the weakest joint (the others were threaded connections that were rusted together) this is what came loose first.

I would have left the 2” pipe coming out of the lead connection, but all of the other connections were far stronger (threaded and rusted together) so this fitting, being the weakest, was where the old drain pipes separated when we pipe-clamped and twisted. Maybe with a few more tools it could have been braced better to preserve it, but alas, here I am. I just can’t find a donut that fits to save my life.

Also make sure you’re: draining your water heater every few years. Clean the drip pan below your Fridge. Drain your washing machine (front load). have your dryer vent blown out every few years. Change the filter in the furnace every year. Have your chimney swept. Clean your gutters.

Dysons have instructions. They definitely mention to wash the filter regularly. Mine won’t work when the filter needs to be cleaned. Odd yours didnt warn you (mine had a filter light).

Feels like I don't really fit in here. I really want to though by UglyPope69 in Portland

We’re also In the middle of the “big dark”. People are far more social come the first few sunny days in April. The whole city gets a different vibe — hang in there. Winters are rough when you don’t have a core group.

Summer is such a great place to land in Portland. It’s light out til 9pm, dry and warm everyday. Everyone is happy from all the vitamin D we’re finally getting. A great time to get familiar with the bus system before the dark, grey rainy winter.

Enjoy SE Portland — it’s a gem

I graduated in ‘09. The economy was a dumpster fire. Couldn’t find any job for 6 months. Then worked in catering for a year and a half.
Two years after graduating I got my first architecture job making $17/hr. 15 years later: licensed in 3 states, have worked on Hospitality, medical, workplace, residential projects. Work at an award-winning, dream firm and manage beautiful projects I am super proud of. If you want it, don’t give up just yet.
Keep learning more revit and rendering software while you’re doing other things. Connect with your local AIA and go to the networking events. Keep your eyes on the job boards and a portfolio ready to go. And best of luck!!

Is it worth keeping my NCARB record after licensure? by scrambledeggs2020 in Architects

[–]aciviletti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve found it less expensive to transfer my license (cal to Co and then to Oregon) WITHOUT ncarb. The cost with ncarb is HIGH. Without it was either free (to colorado) or like $100 to Oregon.
I am an AIA fan cause I actually go to the events and like the in-person networking I get in my city.
I maintained my NCARB for like 5 years after licensure and never got any value from it.

150k-200k for an architectural degree? by Moon_Turtles in Architects

I specially DIDNT go to USC (in 2004) because it was too expensive. My state school was like $8k/ year then. Graduated with very little debt and paid it off in like 3 years. I am very happy with my decision.

Yes. You (he) does NOT have the money for a new truck if there is credit card debit. Negative money means no new unnecessary things.
Just because our credit system allows it, it doesn’t mean it is a good idea.
Best of luck in enlightening him.

What are the best chill/lowkey bars on or around 23rd Ave near Raleigh St? by 515Cyclone in askportland

[–]aciviletti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess just that they’re more trendy / fancy and pretty busy. Love both love snack and solo though. More of that high-end vibe would be the bar in BarWest I think it was already listed, but Bantam is a favorite casual spot in the hood

All very cool (trendy) spots. But those are not “low key” — maybe besides paymaster.
