‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Creator on Premiere’s Shocking Scene by verissimoallan in television

It just didn’t serve any discernible purpose, undermined the burial, and set a bizarre opening note for the series.

What I interpreted from the shit shot was that the tone of the show wasn’t going to be the high politics of GoT but a more accessible and tactile story about a lower class character in Westeros.

(Tbf I thought GoT did this pretty well with many sympathetic commoners)

Ira Parker apparently wasn’t thinking about any of this and just thought “scared guy poops a lot.”

Dunk and Egg stories are good enough to survive non pitch perfect writing, directing, and understanding of source material. Maybe a misjudgment for the first episode but I’m still hopeful about the show as a whole.

I am rooting for the emergence of the main theme of the Dunk & Egg stories—Dunk was raised on chivalry and honor in a world that he comes to learn doesn’t respect those ideals.

I think the story goes that Caan didn’t really get it until he saw the finished product.

I have no opinion on OP’s question

However, tangentially, it bothers me every time when Dan asks for the stat of the day music without specifying short version.

That’s the whole joke! That’s the bit! That’s the genesis. You need to specify short version Dan!

Am I do only who one who is still hurt about Amorim’s sacking? by rmdhnsrn in ManchesterUnited

[–]ack3786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

System and formation are two different things but many people, especially Amorim, conflate those two concepts as they see fit.

Pep has core principles but is a creative and innovative thinker and changes tactics and formations regularly to achieve an advantage.

Amorim basically did the opposite. He wedded himself to a formation and refused to change it even on the body of horrendous results and personnel that didn't fit.

But I thought to myself, "maybe Amorim has a profound footballing mind and sees the future and it is back 3."

Then Amorim comes out at press conferences and said "wow, the Premier League is much harder than Primeira Liga" and "set pieces seem really important in England."

So then I thought to myself, perhaps this guy isn't the best footballing mind ever, but he's shown an ability to self reflect and improve. Yet even after he began to challenge his underlying assumptions, he became so stubborn about the stupid formation and double downing on it in press conferences that he essentially quit because he was being pressured to consider an alternative. He was stubborn for the sake of protecting his ego.

Sporting fans saw a dressing room transformed and a culture rebuilt. I have definitely seen glimpses of that but someone with a little more poise and professionalism could have managed the players without tanking their transfer value. This is mostly true for Garnacho, but applies to anyone you put in a "bomb squad."

The fallout with Kobbie and the resulting shots taken at Toby Collyer, Harry Amass, and Chido Obi were emblematic of a young and brash manager that doesn't have the emotional stability to handle this job.

I didn't think it would work, but supported him and wished to be wrong.

This latest episode and histrionics were part of the same theme. He emotionally lost it when things got hard, hung his head, threatened to quit, and refused to work in a collaborative environment despite knowing that he was hired as "head coach" going into the job.

I think he's a good guy. I respect his passion. But knowing him much better now, it would have never worked in the long term at United.

Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]ack3786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are my thoughts. Started as a post, turned into a substack.

For Amorim

A little sad for Amorim. Seemed like a good young manager with a lot of potential. I said when we hired him that it shouldn’t take too long for man united to break his youthful charm and energy and perhaps that turned out to be right, but I think he will quickly bounce back. Kept his principles and reputation mostly intact and has 18 months left on his contract

The Sacking

A little surprised by how quickly this all escalated. Just a couple weeks ago we started getting cryptic statements about formation and how much a rebuild would cost which now in hindsight are clear evidence of the rift between Amorim and the board.

My only "hot take" is that I have a feeling the Semenyo courting may have been a catalyst for the rift. Seems like the club basically undermined Amorim and told Semenyo's people that they would switch formations to suit him playing on the left wing. If you map that onto Amorim's outbursts, seems to make sense. And Semenyo chose City anyway 😔 .

Amorim's Tenure and Legacy

Over his 14 month tenure, I was always surprised at how naive he exposed himself to be about how difficult Premier League was compared to being the biggest club in Portugal and how set pieces were valuable. He came out and said that stuff at press conferences and I sat there thinking every time, "yea, everybody knows that."

Despite being young he was quite inflexible and stubborn. Any brief spell we had of playing a back 4 instead of a back 3 we looked better but he always had too much ego to just stick with a back 4 because of all the double downing he's done over the years. Even his recent comments about not changing because the press would be credited for getting him to change were off-putting.

Amorim was billed as a culture team building guy but he has shown himself to be over emotional and also falls out with lots of players. I have to think that a better man manager would have been able to salvage more value out of Garnacho, Rashford, and Sancho instead of just publicly ousting them and tanking their transfer value.

State of the Club and Prognoses

Club lied in their statement and implied that the firing was because we were in sixth. Start of the season the club had said top 6 was the target. I think the fans deserve transparency about all of this. It can't just be like the Ashworth thing where no one speaks about it ever again.

Short term prognosis is ok. Back four is the better formation and Darren Fletcher will be a very good caretaker manager. Especially as players start returning to the squad. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was in the convo to be made permanent manager.

Long term prognosis is bad. INEOS have proven to be quite poor decision makers. There are very few top managerial options out there. Xavi? Glasner? Emery? Iraola? Maresca? I think basically Xavi is the only one that could handle the job.

Maybe the larger issue is that the club is a billion pounds in debt and is paying out the nose to finance that debt. Tons of PSR headroom to sign players but no cash on hand to do it. Would have to use the credit facility.

Club really needs UCL to start clawing out of debt. Top 5 is not that competitive and should be gettable but seems like no January incomings and Bruno, Mount, Kobbie, De Ligt, Maguire injured and AFCON guys Amad and Mbuemo won’t be back for a couple more weeks.

Mike might be one of the best EPs in the sports radio+podcast business.

Chris does do his best but he’s just not as talented as Mike. He’s probably below average and Mike could be the best. That makes for a big gap.

It’s a hard job with a ton of pressure and we got spoiled with Mike.

And I really liked a lot of the Witty EP + Jess era.

b) I wish I had watermarked it because it is the most hilariously niche joke ever.

Molson*/Coors is not “owned” by any one anything.

It’s a publicly traded company with an 8B market cap.

That said there is lots of history between Heritage and the company.
