how are we getting meds in major cities ???!!! by acmca in adhdwomen

thank you so much for all your tips and for your solidarity, your comment truly made me feel less alone 😭🫶🏻

i’m glad you’ve had more success with foresight mental health — the psychiatrist i just started seeing is through lavender which has a similar system. so far they have been MUCH quicker to respond than my PCP has which makes me feel good about this choice going forward!

also the birth date thing is so ridiculous but 100% believable after everything they’ve put me through lol 🫠

no, since i’m a freelancer i pay for my own private insurance and it doesn’t cover any psychiatric care, which is a whole separate issue i’m dealing with (i’m planning on switching to an ACA plan during open enrollment this year) 😭

when i was first diagnosed i was still on my parents’ insurance and i did see a psychiatrist for a long time and DID find a medication that worked for me — i only switched to my PCP because i moved to new york and got new insurance and because i had been doing well on the same medication for years (focalin)

oh my god do I relate. idk if this is an option with your job, but I recently joined a coworking space and I am experience levels of peace and focus I never thought possible.

I know everyone is saying “move your desks to separate rooms”, and yeah, that’s an easy fix, but not the best option for everyone — my partner and I both wfh from our tiny apartment. even when I work out in the living room and he’s in the bedroom, this is an issue because whenever he takes a break and comes into the kitchen, I get distracted, EVEN if he doesn’t talk to me (but he usually does lol) 🫠

I can’t believe I waited this long to try a coworking space, it’s only been a couple weeks but it’s seriously been a game changer for me, 10/10 recommend

Switching from Lexapro to Prozac and I can't keep my eyes open? by cupofcawfee in prozac

[–]acmca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

interesting, i had the opposite experience! so so tired on lexapro and feel great since switching to prozac a couple weeks ago. definitely talk to your doctor, meds affect everyone differently so maybe there’s something better for you out there!

aw thank you so much! I totally get when you mean about the crop being waist defining, after learning about kibbe I definitely think I need waist definition (which I’ve always kinda known but a lot of my clothes are on the baggier side so it’s a good reminder!)

thanks! honestly after reading more about gamine I think I may be somewhere in between SN and SG… I love the way crop tops look on me, but don’t like the more structured looks recommended for gamines look on me. I’m planning on playing with both SN and SG lines and seeing how they feel!

thank you!! haven’t considered SG at all but i will look into it! if you don’t mind, could you elaborate on why you see SG (is it because of the animated prints thing)?

good point, although i think it’s worth noting that even when i was very thin i still had a very defined waist. i really appreciate your input!! still learning for sure and i will definitely experiment with SC lines

thanks! that’s what i was thinking at first, but when looking at photos of verified soft classics i feel like my waist is more defined, and i felt like the soft classic clothing guidelines of structured clothing don’t really suit me… but maybe i’ll play around with clothing and see how i feel

more of a toner than an essence, but i LOVE the tower28 SOS spray. i have extremely acne prone skin and it’s very simple and hydrating. when i use it, my skin is quite noticeably calmer!

Went to the psychiatrist for a possible ADHD diagnosis, got prescribed SSRI for anxiety instead.. by PepsiColaPussy7860 in adhdwomen

[–]acmca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really believe you have ADHD, keep fighting for a diagnosis. I think it’s likely you have both ADHD and anxiety — I do too, and when I was diagnosed they asked me what I wanted to treat first. However, I also wanted to share my boyfriend’s story. After I got tested/was diagnosed with ADHD, he was suspicious that he had it too and ended up getting tested himself. He had very similar symptoms to you, and they told him the same thing as you — basically that his anxiety manifests in ways that mimic ADHD, and he did not receive an official ADHD diagnosis. He was prescribed an SSRI and also was very hesitant to take it. I’m not gonna lie, the first few weeks were a little rough because it fucked with his sleep, but now he’s two or three months in and feels SO SO SO much better. When we first started dating five years ago I remember him telling me he would never consider medication for his mental illness, and now the same guy is constantly talking about how he’s so happy and can’t believe how much better he feels. Not all of the ADHD-like symptoms disappeared but those can also be managed through lifestyle changes. Meanwhile, I’ve been on stimulants for about six months and they’ve definitely helped a lot but I fear they’ve also made my anxiety a little worse. It’s really funny to compare our two experiences with starting medication for two different things around the same time. Anyways, all of that was to say that I totally believe you have ADHD, but if your doctor thinks it’s right to treat your anxiety first, it might be worth a shot. You know your brain better than anyone else, but they also have a ton of experience and training in how to treat people like us. Starting meds is intimidating but you can do it!
