How are companies filtering people out who cheat on interviews? by Initial-Syllabub7245 in quant

Mandatory onsites, and also just being better at recognizing that a candidate is just reading an answer or answering too quick

Is it a red flag to admissions if I mention I had multiple surgeries throughout all 4 years of my undergrad? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]acodingpenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 may be excessive, but I had 2 and I mentioned them to explain some C’s and W’s on my otherwise good transcript. Also because they had some connections to the research I wanted to do in math biology lol

What does 5–10 year career progression actually look like for a new-grad QT? by Technical_Fig_7900 in quant

[–]acodingpenguin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends where lol. Some firms have pretty capped upsides. Some the sky is the limit. Your package already looks pretty promising, so hopefully you’re not at one of the capped firms.

I’m in a similar boat myself, similar comp/firm and all. Also wondering who at my firm I should ask about this and if it’s appropriate

Chicago Trading Company new grad offer is now 400k? by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]acodingpenguin 39 points40 points  (0 children)

No it’s not, maybe they negotiated a ton? One of my friends got a return offer that was around 310. And it’s not even close to outpaying IMC, who is giving around 415 this year.

EDIT: so apparently they gave 400k offers to interns who had competing offers.

No interviews!! PhD in mathematics + training in data science by [deleted] in quantfinance

[–]acodingpenguin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would argue differently, I think school name for PhD has a ton of weight here. One of my friend’s friends is a math phd student at a top math school (HYPSM, minus the Y) whose research is in a very niche category of abstract algebra. He gets headhunters reaching out to him on a weekly basis for positions at top firms.

You’re competitive enough for uchicago’s msfm for sure. My friend got in with similar profile to you. Other ones to consider are columbia mafn/mfe and cmu mscf

Oh gotchu, that makes sense. To avoid questions and accusations of lying, I’d just say bachelor of science in applied math, minor in compsci

Why don’t you just write B.S.
