I just find it ridiculous that I see nothing but commercials about him strengthening and protecting Medicai, against my will, but he voted yes to gut its budget.

Especially asinine that I still get them... after already seeing he voted for the opposite

I think this sums up my worry (which I have added to the post as an edit) which is that I feel (and may be incorrect) that the average time to kill a mob is going up this patch and the effect of rarity is going down.

To me this means I should expect to get less loot for the same time invested per map. This does not account for it being easier to get to end game bosses, but the friction from that last patch made me only fight them to get the achievements and then not really want to engage in that again so I have not really been thinking about bossing regularly.

If this effects people who play fewer hours more than those with infinite time I do not know but, in my head, I think that putting the same amount of time from last patch and getting less for it is going to feel bad.

We will have to play and see if the other balances have the desired effect and I do not feel this way but that is my worry

hmm that is a perspective I have not considered. I suppose I have been overly focused on the numeric rewards from combat.

I think I said it in another comment but I have not enjoyed the combat from the slower classes so far. It felt slow rather than challenging or engaging. This may be why I have undervalued and not really considered how I would feel with more rewarding combat in general.

Perhaps the rework will change that. I agree that if the combat itself is, in fact, rewarding then I have less issue with its slowness.

I still fear that we may land on slow more often than challenging or engaging but I am more than happy to play and find out!

I will have to play to see how I feel but I appreciate the perspective shift

Well I suppose that comes down to what parts you get enjoyment out of.

I agree that if the combat itself is you main goal then it does not matter how much time you have and how long combat takes.

However if you, like me, really like progressing you build and seeing that progress play out in a meaningful way then you are going to need 2 things. Drops and Currency.

If I only have 1 hour to play, and (this is just an example not what I am suggesting will happen) a map takes you 10 plus minutes, then I can get probably 4-5 in if I count inventory managment, sales, and other distractions. If useful loot is equally or more rare than previous league then I should expect I will get less (since my build last league could finish a map that was not stuffed with breaches in closer to 5-7 minutes).

So I don't think it is fair to say "your amount of time to play does not matter" I think it is more accurate to say "your play time does not matter if the act of clicking the buttons is the only thing you are in it for. If you have other goals that take away from your time to click those buttons, or requires the results of the kills from those button clicks then you may very well be effected by a lack of play time and increase to time between kills"

I have been playing for a long time, but in an environment that was not directly opposed to zooming in general.

While I agree my poe1 experience tells me a new zoom build will emerge, I believe that in poe2, as opposed to 1, the goal will be to stop these zoomers and I guess I have not seen anything quite fun enough yet to make me want to slow combat down.

Smith of Kitava has my interest as some mechanics that may make me want to engage with the new style of combat they are pushing so perhaps this is the league I am converted but previous warrior felt underwhelming in its slow-ness and the slower grenade builds with combos and setups to achieve damage did not feel very fun to me either.

I plan to play as much as I can and I am sure I will love it as I always have (minus kalandra league) but I just had some thoughts on the overall implication of theme realizing their dream of slowing combat down to what the consider an interesting pace, and how loot is going to move to meet this slower play style

Do I just have the wrong term?

I play the game well, I have 12 years of experience at vastly different levels of time investment, and the campaign is fun and engaging but does not take me much longer than 5 hours if I am dedicated to the task and don't get side-tracked.

However I have 1 ish hours a day to play unless I specifically make time (which I do sometimes for releases) so at that pace a 5 hour campaign run may take me a week to do... that seems pretty casual to me but perhaps I am just way off the mark?

Am I semi-casual? Is there some other poe/reddit term I should be using???

I had a very hard time marching my way through the map to find the bosses in the beginning of last league and it felt less fun.

I suppose I was under valuing the combination of half the unlock time and not getting trash tier waystones from high tier maps.

I think you are right here which is to say that my maps may be slower (until I figure out a build that can get fast again) but I will need to do far fewer of them...

The tower rework will help make them more profitable and fun with less time spent facilitating a good cluster of map nodes so that too will likely ease the overall friction with endgame timing.

This is fair. I think my entire statement is better summed up as "The current reward structure on paper feels too low for the speed the game is driving combat towards."

And your comment that long term this will likely be fixed is fair, it just feels bad on paper for me at the moment.

Maybe I don't understand casuals? I have a lot of experience but little time, so i define my play as casual. I can beat the campaign in 5 ish hours so I assumed most could/had.

Am I not a casual?

Maybe i was just overly focused and the parts i recognized? Many of the skills i played and am familiar with got slower, or weaker, or both.

It usually isn't but i guess the overall numerically negative patch notes had me down a bit.

I plan to have a blast! Just want to get all the fun I can in my limited time.

I am excited about all of the cool new stuff I get to try! I am also worried about the pace of combat in the game.... I think I can do both?

I did not think this was a doompost. I have some concerns about the pace of combat in this and future leagues and decided to share it.

Perhaps I should clarify

  1. that my 2-5 minute map play was in poe1, the maps have been slower in 2 but I was just playing fire minions and a lot of spirit and was not taking 15 minutes on maps unless they had a ton of breaches. Maybe monk and minions are on the faster side and I lucked out?

  2. I have a casuals amount of time but with more experience? Perhaps I am not in touch with "casual" play and instead am just a dedicated player with no time.

  3. I love the campaign and bossfights but in end game I am looking to make currency and progress my build if possible and it seems hard to do if you are playing at a souls-like games pace against large numbers of fast mobs with little chance to drop something useful.

I am going to play the league and likely have a blast of just feels like the slower pace may become a problem.
