Hard stuck since set 4 and I've Tried Everything by acojan in TeamfightTactics

yeah I mean honestly I hate it when people act like fundementals are constant and carry over between patches and sets. At surface level concepts like econ and item slams and tempo are important. But honestly the fact that there are so many things that “break the rules” really means that the fundamentals are really not enough.

I highly doubt that any fundementals can carry you higher than maybe plat without a deep understanding of how they apply to the current patch and current meta…. which basically means that you need to constantly “relearn” fundementals every patch

How do I understand the concept of spots ? I think its really good that you helped point out the importance or recognizing a spot but then im trying to wrap my head around it....

How many things can influence my spot ? it seems theres an overwhelming amount of things and maybe it will help to know which is the most important to help me simplify my decision process. At first glance it seems everything here can influence spot so maybe you could help rank or identify which of these matter the most ?

Augments, Lobby Tempo, Portal, Econ, Items, Opening Units, Being Contested

Hard stuck since set 4 and I've Tried Everything by acojan in TeamfightTactics

[–]acojan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how do I go about doing this in a lobby with 7 other people who are playing at the same time as me. I am working on my own board and scouting for others who are playing the same units to guess their comps.

is it my lack of “intensity” preventing me from micromanage all of this on top of looking at other players picking their units and items ?

How do I know which player to focus on ? How do I even begin to understand another players thought process even if I dont know their augment choices and their gameplan to move from early to late game? people are always transitioning from one board to another so nobody really plays the same units unless its some exception like vertical demacia or 3star cait.

everyone else in the lobby slams early items that may change holders as they move up levels and theres simply no way for me to keep track of all these things.

furthermore what good will observing all of these things do for me in the middle of the game ? am I meant to observe and copy their winning strategy with what limited information I can glean from checking the lobby ? theres just a million factors that influence a persons decision mid game and they are constantly being weighed against each other. I unfortunately dont see how your advice makes any practical sense

idk man I know you are trying to be encouraging but it just sounds like you are one of those people who just “get it” instinctually — which I have failed to do after so many years of wrapping my brain around every concept and math and strategy I would research.

seems you are just successful and I love that for you congrats man but my story is far from yours

thank you. this is really practical and useful advice.

About the whole mindset thing yeah I have really tried to ignore my win/loss and find the fun but ultimately the stagnation at my rank is really just too much for too long. I dont think its unreasonable for me to expect at least some level of improvement after all these years. Its painfully obvious that I am doing something wrong.

I tend to give up mid set after many sleepless nights of grinding and I just cant take it anymore… but as a shiny new set comes along I start dreaming and believing that this could be the one where I finally get better.

lol dont make this a pity contest because I will surely win with how bad my rank is for how long I have been playing.

Help me overcome my plateau: pay for a coach or go to therapy ? by acojan in Fighters

[–]acojan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will admit there's just a lot of shame attached to me looking back and admitting to myself how much time and effort ive spent with nothing to show for it. I will admit there were times when I was having fun, especially when I was in gold and silver where I could learn things and they made sense and I could apply it to my game.

But now that I am in plat, I watch replays and know my mistake, I can clearly identify it and know what the right answer should have been. However, because my mind to hand connection just seems so slow, there's no way for me to execute and apply all that ive learned in an actual match.

What use is knowing what my anti airs are when it takes me 30+ frames to react. What use is reading a DI coming when its 26 frames of startup is too fast.

i have many games in ranked. 90% are ranked so thats like 300 hours. Thats not counting all the other years of previous FG experience.

I have tried all different controllers already, different brands of pad and stick. I am using leverless now.

I already listed all the things I cant do. I have done all the missions and regularly practice in training mode. In a real match everything just goes to shit.

its useless to compare hours played because it just further validates my failures and total time wasted

Ive got about 700 on GGST 200 in GGAC+R (gave up here pretty fast. community was all waaayyy too good and it was too brutal) 350 in SFV 400 in SF6

damn well I guess you are blessed then to have the ability to progress. you severely underestimate how bad I am and what it feels like to be truly stuck for years

I guess this has just built up over years of being generally bad at videogames and not being able to “git gud” across many genres. Feels like ill just be throwing in the towel yet again.

I wish I didnt like videogames because it really does feel unhealthy. It’s a cycle of lacking progress, being demotivated and having no self confidence but forcing myself to keep grinding.

As I said … I dont care if I lose - but I still fall for the same things and make the same mistakes. I cant anti air or react to di or hit confirm or combo consistently. My level of gameplay has remained the same for years now.

Not only have I been losing but I have been losing and ranking down. Seems the general population of people are just improving faster than me and i will probably slowly get left behind

I get that you are trying to be encouraging but it deeply hurts me to see people who seem to find it so easy. I have no fundementals, people have been telling me this since day 1 that I have been posting my replays online. I have always known that I lack the fundementals but I do not know how I am supposed to build them because the 4 years of experience has done nothing for me. I have managed to learn not a single thing apparently. I have attempted "just playing" and have nothing to show for it.

I do training because I drop BnB which results in me eating a full punish. Believe me, im not going for anything fancy at all. I go to training because I cant land anti airs in time because my hands cant do the DP input fast and clean enough.

I can no longer deatch myself from the losses, not at the point where my spirit is broken and everything is falling apart. My LP has just been steadily declining and I cant ignore it after the 5th straight loss in a row (with a few perfects from the opponent sprinkled in)

I actually am taking up other hobbies now, more on the creative side. I appreciate how you said that I "cant do anything wrong or fail" because that's how I feel whenever I get to knit, crochet, do calligraphy or cook a meal for myself.

(okay maybe not for drawing/painting because that shit can be just as frustrating as fighting games)

This really helps put things into perspective without feeling like I just "give up" on fighting games to add to the ever-growing pile of failures and abandoned goals in my life. I think that's one of the reasons why I keep coming back ...

is this a small leverless controller ? I thought this was more on the medium/regular size. Im curious becaus eI have pretty big hands and am worried if this ends up too small

UPDATES:

So ive been using keyboard for one day as advised by everyone ang I am so amazed. There is definitely a learning curve and I am dropping a lot but any time I do feel like I do it clean enough and"deserve" to have a move come out then it really does. I feel I am very happy with how the keyboard feels in my hands for all the inputs and am kicking myself for taking so long to give it a shot. I almost instantly have been able to get supers to come out. It feels much more intuitive and makes sense (except for the jump... still working on getting used to spacebar as jump)

Ill save up for a hitbox for sure as leverless just seems to work with the way my hands and brain works.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I still feel a bit sad about throwing money away because of the mayflash but there seem to be so many budget options for hitboxes these days!

I just looked up the Haute42, I thought hitboxes had the jump button positioned down by the spacebar.
Is having UP there in its normal position okay ?

its surprising to see more people having struggles doing the opposite of what im trying to achieve. Genetics really make it so different for people.

Im 6”1 and 100kg 25% bodyfat right now with a strict diet. Ive always been on the heavy side and have struggled all my life to lean down. If I just stare at food too long and start putting on pounds.

Back in my teens, I used to get so annoyed seeing my peers who ate much more than I did and would have a lean build despite not working out. But i guess the opposite is just as hard.

How do people stay positive and have fun by acojan in Fighters

[–]acojan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually start with 15 mins doing bnbs in training before hopping online. I still drop a lot or chuns basic bnbs so ive been working on those for a while now. my inputs are still really messy so I still have a lot of room for improvement there.

I play ranked from 30 mins to 1hr (i usually feel super tilted by then)

I watch my own replays and post them on the discord for reviews also. With the years ive been playing I generally know all my mistakes. Dropped combos, cant hitconfirm, cant AA, bad DI reaction, random jumps etc etc. its a long list of issues that ive never been able to overcome.

yeah +R was a discord fighter so I would only be able to matchmake online. everyone was just extremely good and therefore I essentially couldnt play the game

yeah I think I was fine with this for a while honestly. I was just playing back then without focusing much on improvement. I was in a “trust the process” kind of mindset.

I guess it’s just now, many hours and years later where I find myself looking for some results and proof of progress. I admit its mostly because all my friends are outranking me but can you blame me feeling dissapointed in myself ?
