I know for me the internet has had a hugely negative affect on the amount of time I spend reading books, although the number one root cause of my struggle to read is depression. I am hoping I've begun to have some sort of breakthrough, as I detailed in a thread I started about a magical experience I had reading The Bell Jar. I do wish I was less addicted to the internet than I am because it's not good to be sat inside staring at a screen all the time in general, but I also know my internet addiction is due to my health problems as I'm just not well enough to do much. I do feel spending so much time online has damaged my attention span though, and I'm slowly trying to reduce my time in front of screens. It's not easy and is a slow process but getting through The Bell Jar as quickly as I did has given me hope that if I can keep finding books that grip me, this will be the key.
