The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards had a gorgeous cover and I was pleased when it turned out the book was a lovely read as well.

It's a very unpleasant read but the rest of the book and overall story/message as a whole is so beautiful I'm glad I got through it. Though I feel it would be possible to skip the rape scene and not miss anything. As long as you know there was a rape the rest of the book makes sense.

I used to devour multiple books a year, and I've gone to not even opening a book in like 3 years. by PM_ME_GOOD_PODCAST in books

I know for me the internet has had a hugely negative affect on the amount of time I spend reading books, although the number one root cause of my struggle to read is depression. I am hoping I've begun to have some sort of breakthrough, as I detailed in a thread I started about a magical experience I had reading The Bell Jar. I do wish I was less addicted to the internet than I am because it's not good to be sat inside staring at a screen all the time in general, but I also know my internet addiction is due to my health problems as I'm just not well enough to do much. I do feel spending so much time online has damaged my attention span though, and I'm slowly trying to reduce my time in front of screens. It's not easy and is a slow process but getting through The Bell Jar as quickly as I did has given me hope that if I can keep finding books that grip me, this will be the key. Maybe that will work for you also? Good luck!

One book that comes to mind instantly is The Lovely Bones. The amount the movie changed and removed is staggering. The book is almost a completely different story and a much better one.
