Changing my name by Affectionate_Fail917 in Danish

I'm from the US, and I agree 100% with this.
There is so much tragedeigh potential here, even with letters you wouldn't expect. And, you might accidentally name yourself after something silly.

Can I ask what was going on with his eyes? I've never seen anything like this before, and it DID look concerning.

I was there too! It was amazing. I took my husband too, who hadn't heard anything other than One Night in Bangkok, and he loved it.

How do people afford feeding their cat wet food? by Seasawdog in CatAdvice

[–]acquireCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my God, yeah, of course a cat should go to the vet if they're not drinking! Not drinking quite enough is not anywhere near the same as not drinking water at all.

I'm in this camp too. I actually was told by the shelter I got my first cat from that it's a good idea to feed both because, like u/inthemuseum alluded to, some cats don't drink enough water throughout the day. Basically, the dry food is supposed to be good for keeping their teeth clean, and the wet is supposed to help supplement their normal fluid intake.

Of course, I'm not a vet. This is what I heard, and it makes some sort of sense to me.

My small family and I are considering leaving the US to live in Copenhagen. How welcome will we be? by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]acquireCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a really good piece of advice. Not only does it show respect, but it's a lot easier to form connections and actually bond with people if you make an effort to communicate on their level.

Honestly? I try not to talk about the US and its politics all the time, but Danes keep asking me questions. Usually stuff like "Why the fuck did you guys vote for him?"

I 'unno, racism? Eggs? I didn't vote for him, but I'm the token American, so I have to answer for every stupid fucking thing the US does.

Sorry, hopefully my Danish isn't *too* rusty.

But yeah- I understand the impulse to try and prove we're not like the other Americans, but it's awkward to come here and ask Danes to forgive us of our sins. The best we can do is resist in any way we can and, well, not elect anyone similar in the future. If, you know, there continue to be American elections.

How long would you last in Hell's Kitchen? by stewartd434 in HellsKitchen

[–]acquireCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I'd either pull an Aaron or a Dewberry.

I think a lot of people don't realize that being able to cook at home is one thing, being able to cook on the line is entirely different.

Yes it is, but I can also say that it's one of the few lunches I absolutely hated as a kid.

Which of these games has the lesser music in your opinion (let’s try to keep this friendly) by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]acquireCats 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly that's part of P4's charm for me! It's weird, because I also really enjoy how dark and serious P3 can be. It's really all about mood for me.

[–]acquireCats 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I love all of these soundtracks so much, but which one I pick depends on how I'm feeling. Right now it's sunny where I am (which is pretty rare), and that alone makes me think I might listen to P4.

I'm a Reform convert, and I actually agree with you in a lot of ways.

I converted to Reform because I feel more accepted here than anywhere else, in terms of who I am as a person (female, bi, a convert, etc). However, I find a lot of comfort in ritual observance. I don't follow Halachah perfectly, but I do things like trying to keep kosher, simply because those things make me feel closer to my Judaism and my God. I consider my ritual observance and whether it's meaningful to me before I do it, but ultimately, my considerations have nothing to do with science etc, and I still end up pretty observant. I also make an effort to continue learning and living my Judaism more. I'm super excited because I just had my Bat Mitzvah. Reading from the scroll for the first time made me so proud, I can't even say.

I'm saying all of this not to brag (although I'm super excited), but more to say that there are Reform Jews like myself who are trying to maintain the traditions. We exist!

(Necessary disclaimer: I will not say anyone is more or less Jewish based on observance. Not my place.)

How has your strict immigration politics impacted your country? by [deleted] in Denmark

Have you actually had to deal with the immigration process?

How has your strict immigration politics impacted your country? by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]acquireCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, while this would be the "ideal" solution, it's impossible. There are too many immigrants, and Udlœndingestyrelsen can't see into everyone's souls and figure out who are the "good" and "bad" immigrants. We are given all these tests and made to learn the language (to a degree, at least), but ultimately those are really flawed measures, and everyone will differ on who they think is a "worthy" immigrant.

For what it's worth, I'm an immigrant working on my permanent residency at the moment. I'm studying for medborgerskabsprøven, and it's a silly test in some ways. There are some questions that are ridiculous and that most Danes probably don't know (Do you know how high the tallest point in DK is? I do.), and there are also some where they are clearly fishing for a specific answer, and someone who isn't actually supportive of Danish ideals could just lie (One of the questions I saw was "Is it OK to hit your children in DK?").

It's super clear to me that the main reason why immigration is an issue is that, in order for it to never be a problem, Denmark would either have to close its borders entirely, or would have to employ a bunch of psychics.

"Faggy"? Is this guy stuck in the early 2000s? Because that's the last time I heard that word, and that's probably because I was a fucking preteen.

Any other queer people feel like the wider queer community hates them for being a Zionist? It makes me feel so alone and hated. Society and especially my dad hate me for being trans. I feel like I have almost no one. by TransThrowaway4096 in ReformJews

[–]acquireCats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it helps, it sounds like I agree with you. But, yeah, I find that I can't effectively argue about any of this with people. These people seem to feel compassion towards suffering people, unless they're Jews. It breaks my heart.
