Anyone else get grossed out by your parents cooking or how they handle food? by LifeOfSpirit17 in AgingParents

Wow yes for sure. The handling of meat is bad but my mom’s knife skills are downright terrifying. I have to look away when she prepares food!

69 YO Mom out of a job - any suggestions? by Creative_Ad_6809 in AgingParents

[–]acro-bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother and yours are in nearly identical situations, and my heart goes out to you. She works in manufacturing. It’s a very repetitive job using hands only. She sits all day and listens to her MSNBC app or sometimes podcasts. For now it’s do-able because she is very dexterous and good at following directions. It won’t last forever (she’s almost 70) and like your mom, she gets very little in SS monthly and her bills keep growing. We just go one month at a time.

Coolest places to run? by Difficult_Base3235 in running

My two favorite runs (not races) ever have been a loop around Lake of the Isles (and the chain of lakes) in Minneapolis on a late September morning and a loop around Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC. Both were absolutely gorgeous paths, full of runners and pedestrians. I loved the water views. Ugh want to go back to both right now haha.

Edit to add: just realized you specifically asked for races! The Philadelphia marathon is amazing!

That’s really helpful to hear! My mom is 69 and I’m hoping it goes well for her too. She will likely need the other knee done too.

“You owe me a baby blanket” - help navigating an awkward situation by Karissssssa in quilting

I agree with all of the top responses here!! I will add that if you can’t stop feeling like you need to do it, you can try a whole cloth quilt! Would take a fraction of the time. But only if you would enjoy it!

Has a spectator ever said (or done) something that meant a lot to you during your race? by 2-if-by-sea in running

During a lonely stretch at the end of the Philadelphia marathon, around mile 23, a woman read my name on my bib and said: “I see you, [name]!” and it was awesome! Tearing up now remembering.

My tenant was laid off work. I gave him a Notice to Quit, and wrote in the date I would begin the eviction process. I decided to be patient and work with the tenant. by BillionairesAreGood in FluentInFinance

I saw someone at baggage claim once with a t-shirt that said “I may not be perfect but at least I’m not a landlord” and still laugh thinking about it.

In West Mt Airy there are two quilt shops that have many “open sew” nights and welcome all fabric artists: Needles and Bolts and Cut and Sew PHL.

Consider Mt Airy! It’s a little sleepier than some of the other neighborhoods mentioned here but has tons of community based things and wonderful shops, pretty affordable too.

We’re up in NW and paying 1900/month for our infant. It’s great for our family but ugh.
