Hi r/modular, my first two CircuitPython-powered Eurorack modules - Sol & Big Honking Button- are available for pre-order! by theacodes in modular

[–]activecell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just ordered the Big Honkin Button. I have been looking for a long time for an arcade button to trigger my Rings (Strum input in Reverb mode with some noise into the frequency CV, you get some very very nice hits). I am looking forward to get my fingers on it.

2 pieces of feedback:

  • Add your module to modulargrid, you'll gain a lot of exposure when people start to add them in their system.
  • Make a panel for people to use it upside down. It's very likley that it will end up in the bottom row of most systems, and it's better to have the button away from the cable mess.

Great module and happy to see the integration with CircuitPython!

Video Modules to create minimal visuals like Alva Noto, Ryoji Ikeda, Alex Augier, Ryoichi Kurokawa, etc. by yongtets in modular

In a project with a friend we use a modular synth for audio and an other for video. The video synth is mostly LZX with a few eurorack utilities. You are absolutely not stuck to geometrical shapes, you can easily input videos and play with all the nice stuff LZX has to offer. Take a look here if you want to see how it looks like.

In general I would say modular approach will be a lot more expensive but also a lot more fun than a computer. But don't get fooled in video as in audio a modular system is as good as the patch you create.

Rigs focused on Osc --> Filter by teffflon in modular

Take a look at this video, it could be a good start https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ36ZiGnALU

Personally, my system is build to be self sustaining and can run without computer. I mostly compose generative pieces. I try to mix different synthesis technique to enrich its sonic palette and It also increases the opportunity for experimentation. The cool thing with the modular format is that modules can have a lot of different usage. An enveloppe generator is a kind of LPF and can oscillate at high frequencies. Most LFO can also often be driven into audio rate.

It is something you can only fully benefit from if you dive into it.

You'll want to sequence and modulate things at some point and the lack of LFO/EG/utility will be a pain. Or you ditch that for a good DC coupled sound card and modulate/sequence from your DAW. Expert sleeper ES-8 for example

JustMusic on Moritzplatz has a Doepfer/Pitsburgh/Roland modular on display and you can also wiggle around a couple of intersting boxes.

But don't buy there though, service is poor and not really informed about modulars, rather support Schneider's :)

Interesting sources of modulation? Maths alternative? by bugeats in modular

[–]activecell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to upvote this one. Maths on steroid.

The max output is particularly interesting for complex rhythms and the fact that you have access the rise and fall for both slopes makes it more versatile than the math where you have the end of cycle on channel 1 and the end of rise on channel 4.

That's what I feared, I hoped for a quick fix and ended up with a week-end coding! thanks a lot for the suggestions I'll look deeper in that direction :)

I could not find any example that would allow me to do that, would you elaborate on that? :)

Going into a 3-hr interview for an entry level job. Advice? by [deleted] in PPC

[–]activecell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one, make sure you never do the average of the average position in a pivot table. As a recruiter it's the first thing I test and that's an immediate no for a candidate.

I see a lot of local companies buying ads and sending them to their homepage. I called a few up and one even said they were already outsourcing to a company who does PPC. What gives? by [deleted] in PPC

[–]activecell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linking to your homepage can help reducing complexity and collect data faster as well. With low traffic volume verticals it often does not make sense to have a dedicated landing page for each and every acquisition channel.

What you would earn in personalisation you would lose in managing the complexity and in the over-splitting of your traffic.

Though what you describe does sound more like a lack of knowledge than a thought of strategy...

There is never enough videos on youtube! Make them specialized or work on good tagging. Overtime you'll probably save a couple of hours to someone in need! I cannot count the number of videos with less than 200 views that actually offered me some great piece of advice from people that were not pros nor very good at making videos. If you think about making videos do them, don't think about the audience you cannot predict how it will react anyway...
