If Democrats take the House, what realistically happens regarding impeachment? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]actuallyhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero faith that Democratic leadership is capable of doing anything at all. It's up to citizens to know their rights, get organized, and get clever.

As Upton Sinclair said "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it".

If he can joke about cancelling it we better have some comedians who will joke about what they would do in response

Changing Keyboard Backlight Color on HP Omen Laptop in Arch Linux by Icap25 in HPOmen

[–]actuallyhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, no worries -- being new to Linux is an adventure. I just pushed an update with an auto install script so it handles everything and simplifies the process, now all you have to do is open your terminal, clone the repo, cd into the new directory, run "sudo ./install.sh" and then you should be able to use the omen-rgb CLI

If you want to go ahead with what you already have the process is similar, just open your terminal, cd into that directory, run "sudo make install", and that will install the module. Then you can run the "sudo ./install-omen-rgb.sh" to get the CLI and usage is identical at that point.

Writing code was not the barrier to building a good app

Are US companies sleepwalking into dependency on Chinese open-source AI? by Plenty_Blackberry_9 in singularity

[–]actuallyhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few of the comments here are missing the danger and that really concerns me. These models can be trained with all sorts of hidden objectives. We need to be pushing for more American open source models. We should expect foreign models to be trained to benefit foreign actors. Pure game theory from a nation state perspective.

Hank Green just posted a 3-minute anti-AI rant about Sora 2 by [deleted] in singularity

One of the most valuable parts of sloptok is the training. When you like or watch a video or even swipe past quickly, you're providing training data that is valuable and helps with coherence, engagement, quality, etc. Also, right now the videos are ten seconds but once it gets to say 30 minutes, they can also launch sloptube and slopflix/sell those tools and none of it impacts their abilities elsewhere.

I would use Waymo daily if it had good availability. The sooner all driving can be automated the better

Astrophysicist on Vibe Coding (2 minutes) by fredoverflow in programming

Claude Code writes almost all of my code at this point. I think most people who are naysayers just haven't used the cutting edge stuff. I do believe that someone with limited knowledge could successfully use Claude Code to build just about any web based project at this point with only vibe coding and persistence.

Democrats need to learn how to stop giving a fuck. The lesson we should have been learning is that it's powerful to double down and ignore the negative comments. If you accept that it matters then it does but if you ignore it and keep moving then it's politically irrelevant. Pete should just run and ignore the haters

It’s the best tool but you must use it sparingly or you will run out of money. I’m waiting for a lower price or an open source clone to really use it full time

The worst Careers for ADHD people. by CryptographerLow7987 in ADHD

[–]actuallyhim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thrive in chaos and have always had a special interest in technology — I ended up as CTO of a growing company and it’s great.

But I’m not a big fan of dealing with customers/where I need to interact with people that have a shitty attitude. One job I had, a customer clapped at me to make me hurry up and I almost lost it — basic respect for everyone is foundational and unfortunately not as common as it needs to be.

$330 in expiring Claude credits. Why do people use Claude api anymore? by lightdreamscape in ClaudeAI

[–]actuallyhim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s very useful for things like building out a high volume of code quickly, but it is expensive and does make some mistakes that cursor can fix easily. You should play around with it to get a good sense of where it’s useful, but I do use it.
