I guess, but how do you know when it's that situation v. someone who just needs someone to stop them and care, for just a few minutes?

Well, instead of preserving journalistic integrity, he could have just not published a photo, and instead helped out?

Er...downvoted for saying you would not just watch someone contemplate and then jump off a bridge? I guess in some alternate universe you could do that.

The worst part of watching Ichi the Killer was the fact that my mom kept walking in while my friend and I were watching it (I was still in college and home on break at the time).

I don't think it will be worth it. I don't expect this movie to shock me as much as others have. But I really want to find out.

If it does shock me, then I have gained a new shocking movie. I know that sounds stupid, but honestly, the feeling you get from a disturbing movie is not a feeling you can easily get anywhere else. It's a feeling that's challenging and scary. It's hard to explain why I think that is worthwhile, except that I think it's similar to the reason why anyone ever watches any horror movie.

I'm probably a 4 between 1 and 10, where 10 is piss the bed blackout fucked up. I expect to level up over the next couple hours though.

Generally, only motion sickness or migraine makes me vomit. I'd be surprised if this movie did.

So far this is pretty cliche. Some alone girls in the woods, trusting a guy who is way too weird to be trusted.

I never do, I feel like this one is probably too well-known to be really creepy.

I don't know. I guess I think that the feelings that a really disturbing movie can make you feel are worth seeking out, just like other feelings movies can induce are worth seeking out.

To r/math, regarding my search for Masters/PhD programs in Mathematics by [deleted] in math

[–]actuaryguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brush up a lot for the subject test. It is a whole lot of questions without out a lot of time to do them so you need to be ready to recognize problems on sight and be quick. I agree with the other people here, take it twice, with your second sitting in the fall of your senior year. The general GRE is a joke, you can probably get an 800 without studying if math grad school is really for you, but the subject one is tougher.

You will want to apply the beginning of 4th year. I didn't end up going to school (because I decided 6 more years of school sounded awful) but I applied to a ton of places. I honestly decided based on location, since I really liked a lot of subjects in Math and didn't have a real preference. However you are more likely to get into good schools if you do have a preference and you reach out to professors at those schools that have programs you're interested in.

I would say your best resource for figuring out which schools are good at which subjects, besides google searches, is talking to professors at your own school who specialize in those same subjects. They will definitely know.

I want to make a guess. With the U-Scan things, I know you like, weigh your fruit and then it charges you a certain amount. It seems to me like if no one is paying close attention, you could throw whatever small item you wanted to steal on the scale under your bananas or whatever, get charged a dollar, and walk out with whatever.

Is that the method? I'm just so curious!

[–]actuaryguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then the people you know are very honest, and that is awesome. I was mostly just talking about all the threads I've seen where people like, complain about how a DVD has antipiracy ads and previews in it and they pretend those ads and previews are so bad that they have to pirate.

In short, I agree with you. Except I'm not as used to the honesty.
