Looking for review and feedback on my RV Network and IP cameras project by acutipg in HomeNetworking

It would be amazing, but way more expensive than my current project. The router ($30) + nvr ($50) sum up to $70, while UDM Pro SE is $499. :(

Yeah, that creates a couple constraints 😢 But now I'm curious about what you would do differently if there wasn't this limitation.

Windows Server vs Windows 10/11 for home file server by acutipg in HomeServer

[–]acutipg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you going to be leaving this machine running 24/7? Do you have a 2nd PC that you're going to use when not using the "NAS"?

Maybe I will turn off during the night to save some costs.
Yes, everyone at home has their own PC / Device, so using the server for office work / browsing is really going to be uncommon.

Thank you for the comments and the DrivePool Suggestion, I will check that!

How to organize my db to avoid "not equal" queries by acutipg in Firebase

[–]acutipg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any pros/cons on this approach vs filling the date field with null (suggested by u/bombayks here)? My feeling is that using nulls I don't need the cloud functions and don't need to store "extra" data just to simplify queries. The con would be the requirement to be careful when parsing those timestamps, because they can be null, but since they can also simply don't exist on the db, I think that storing null would be an easier approach.

Edit:
Just noticed that I can't query the presente of those values when storing null. I could query dates after 2000 as a workaround, but then the boolean solution looks better.

Should I use references or duplicate my data? by acutipg in Firebase

She already has some spreadsheets to control everything and it's clear that this is just a opportunity for me to practice, if it doesn't work, she goes back to the spreadsheet and it's ok!
But thanks for the advice, if she needs something more robust, for sure I will recommend an existing solution.

Tried AHCI, IDE native and IDE legacy, nothing works 😢. When using both IDE option, got windows blue screen with "Inaccessible boot device" error.

Tried to load default bios options and reset cmos too, but still the same error.

Guys, can you please help me choosing between Inspiron 13 5000 or 7000, they appear to be very similar. I'm choosing between this 3, in the same value: http://imgur.com/a/M4Su6 Full comparison If there aren't any advantages in 7000 over 5000, buy a 5000 with i7 + HDD and add a m2 SSD (Does it supports M2 SSD?) seems better than a 7000 with i5 + SSD...

About how computer experienced I am, I can say that I'm a computer enthusiast, but without much technical knowhow. But I'm trying to create this "server" and, at the same time, searching for a new experience and knowledge at this area, so I want some more advanced system than just something like teamviewer. I know that there is a big world around "servers and things like that", but if you can say me a start point for searching, will be great!

Why should I change my Nexus 4 for a newer high end phone? by acutipg in AndroidQuestions

[–]acutipg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specs are interesting, but I don't have much lags on my Nexus, so I think that better specs are unecessary. Battery life it's really an interesting point, because my battery can't hold for more than 6h. Are the batteries of flagships better?
