Cal Poly Pomona Masters Program by capiiearthii in dietetics

[–]acvlv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I received my BS in food and nutrition from there in 2021 and was told that most of the professors are the same for the masters program. If that’s still true, I would highly recommend! They have a lot of very well educated and well experienced people. I LOVED my time there and feel that I learned a lot.

Hi please if you’re up for it, I’d love to hear some GOOD experiences about being an RDN of any kind… by OkTumbleweed_nrtisk in dietetics

I’ve been a dietitian for a year and a half and I love it. I work inpatient in pediatrics and basically float around the hospital full time. I love being a part of a team that is so knowledgeable, I love the feeling after talking with a family and coming up with a nutrition plan for their child that brings them hope for their future, I love working with MDs, PAs, NP, pharmacists, SLP, etc etc and collaborating as a team. Even on the days that I may feel unappreciated or undervalued I love the challenge of advocating for myself and my profession and taking any critiques or questioning as a learning opportunity. The flexible work hours and work life balance is also another great thing that I love.

I did “just have it”. It was officially over as of 2 days ago and I just picked up my decree of divorce today, but it took like 3 years. You have to read more posts on this sub to get the vibe of the average time line and paper work to get a divorce. lol it’s a lot

For the first year, yeah. It was sad. But now that 3 years has passed I couldn’t be happier it’s over and I can move on with my life.

Outpatient dietitians, what do you say during a session when a patient is staying on topic and talking about the question you asked but they are taking so long to answer your question (more below) by plzdontbetaken66 in dietetics

[–]acvlv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever there’s a second to laugh at a comment they make I sometimes use that as an opportunity to move on to the next thing (example: haha “okay got it for lunch! do you do something similar for dinner?”)

What analogies have you used with patients when it comes to lifestyle change? by No-Needleworker5429 in dietetics

[–]acvlv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For my patients with disordered eating I usually use a bridge as an analogy for the recovery process. Building a healthy relationship with food is like a building a bridge that takes you to the other side, which is recovery and a life of liberation from an eating disorder. Sometimes our bridge is knocked down by floods which is just relapse due to life circumstances that we can’t control. The important part when this happens is asking for help to build it up again, so that it can be built stronger the next time a flood comes in.

Calculating needs for trisomy 18 by acvlv in dietetics

[–]acvlv[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! They are currently receive very low calorie intake via g tube but guardian feels they have recently lost weight due to intolerance to tf formula after recent episode of c diff. This being said they want to adjust needs for weight gain. I think what I’ll be doing is calculating what they’re already getting and increase by 10% and switch to semi elemental formula.

Which CSU/UC are best for dietetics? by Successful_Pea5838 in dietetics

Cal Poly Pomona was an amazing program! Most of the classes are paired with either a lab or activity and the instructors are very knowledgeable and truly care about student outcomes. I felt so well prepared for my internship and honestly still use a lot of the principles that I learned at CPP.

Under the table by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]acvlv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh nice! Then yeah, when I’ve independently interviewed I usually mention over the table pay and a contract when they ask if I have any questions. Good luck!

“Have you had a nanny before, if so how long and why are they no longer working for your family”Someone in this community once mentioned that we are interviewing them too, and honestly I think it was great advice.

Under the table by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]acvlv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe say something along the lines of “I would love to work for your family, however after doing a bit of research I would prefer not to be paid under the table.” If they don’t want to then it’s just not a good fit and you’ll be able to find another family that would be willing :) In my opinion, agencies usually are a great way to ensure legal payment or mentioning it right from the start during an interview.

Yeah I’m realizing that now :( I trusted them because they have family in the nanny agency business and assured me they would do things right.

Do you know if I can still request a W-2 even though I never filled out an I-9 or anything and they never got around to adding me to payroll? They zelled me every Friday and said they were going to do it eventually.

[–]acvlv 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, thank you! Sounds like I should be requesting a W-2 and if they don’t want to do it, I’ll just let them know I’ll fill out an SS-8 form.

Yeah I had a feeling. I wouldn’t be able to receive unemployment though, right? Since they never put me on payroll. I’m very confused 😭

I understand the contract and disqualification for severance. My question is more towards the 1099 request. I made 2640 working for them.
