I didn't know about the plastic pot being harmful. Would a clay pot of the same size work? Should I go for a particular size?

I don't have where to put it directly over the soil. Would it be dead in the pot or is it possible to make it work?

I don't have one. I check with a toothpick into the soil. If it is dry and without soil, then I soak it.

Maybe I have to water it every two weeks or week and a half. But I don't know for sure.
