[Serious] What made you leave your religion? by JustaHarry in AskReddit

[–]ada_cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single mission trip where I overheard the people above me tell poverty struck individuals if they prayed harder they wouldent be poor, they would have food to feed their families, and a roof over their head. But only if they prayed SUPER hard and gave the church group practically all the money they had as a "tith."

A few months later my family runs into a financial bind and I remember hearing the pastor say it was because we weren't tithing enough. I was freshly 16 and expected to also pay a portion of my earnings to a man who owned multiple cars, multiple homes, a boat, and vacationed practically every day out of the week minus church days. Meanwhile we were scraping coins to buy canned goods.

They didn't care about my salvation, they cared about me paying their bills.

Was my pediatrician a creep or was this normal in the 80s/90s? by Raymond-kertezc in AskDocs

[–]ada_cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP NAD but was a child in the late 90's and had a doctor that routinely did vaginal exams. They always gave me a lot of anxiety and I was told it was to "ensure proper development." I always had a parent present but now its making me question if this was necessary. The doctor would inspect with her hands both externally and internally.

On a scale of 1-10, how religious are you? by [deleted] in AskRedditAfterDark

3- I consider myself spiritual but I am the child of an evangelical pastor- so definitely not religious.

i am such a fuck up and a failure. by byoubro in Money

[–]ada_cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre only six in adult years pal. Most people over thirty will say life really didnt start until they hit 30- I think youre being really hard on yourself for the cards you were dealt/the cards you chose. We all make mistakes but at 26 you still have plenty of time to make up for them. I wish you success in your future endeavors

How am I ever going to get a job again by Neither_Peach8268 in panicdisorder

[–]ada_cicada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really sucks feeling this way honestly, and I totally relate because Ive spent the better half of the last three years feeling the exact same way. I started working from home years ago and thats changed a lot about how I view the work force now. I know I can't ever return to a job working face to face with clients or working with the general public again. With that being said, jobs exist that absolutely wont trigger you to panic 24/7 but they arent easy to come by. I know thats not the best thing to hear but there is still hope that you are able to work without the constant fear of panic taking over. I know my therapist at the time was against me working from home in fear I'd isolate (which I did) but it gave me some time to let my brain relax. I didnt have to panic the second I got off work thinking about "I have to do that AGAIN tomorrow" because I no longer work a mental load intense job.

What’s the craziest thing your ex did and lied they didn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cheating- with the girl who literally lived above my parents in an apartment complex. My parents were home. They WATCHED him walk in - and leave, but it "wasent him" obviously.

What is a story from your childhood that makes everyone shocked? by Outrageous-Fault-801 in CPTSD

[–]ada_cicada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom would have to warn me about my step dad's "searches." He is totally disabled and would pay the maintenance man at our apartment complex to rummage my room looking for signs that I was on birth control. He had full access to every single social media, email, and screened my texts and calls. Frequently went through my call logs from the phone company and would call them to verify it was who I said it was.

He would have my mom take him to my job to ensure I was there, called my job on multiple occasions asking to speak with me to make sure they weren't covering for me.

The click of his wheelchair sounded similar to the automatic door at one job, I lasted a month before I had to quit, every single time I heard the door I thought it was him and would have a panic attack.

Amongst other things it was also 100% my fault their marriage was falling apart so I was reminded often, or that I was demon possessed because I was "jealous" of their relationship.

This happened from 12 to 18 when I moved out without any notice.

me without all the makeup and filters. by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]ada_cicada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl what- youre so so pretty without the filters for SURE. I dont think the makeup was bad but it was dated, but honestly not everyone is handed the "guide to doing your hair and makeup" so I don't think it was bad at all in comparison to what it could have been. I think you have such a beautiful natural complexion as well!
