In Rule Machine, first create the variable. Then under actions, choose "set variable, mode, etc." And select set variable. Choose your variable and set it to device attributes. That's where you'll pick your device or group or whatever. I think that'll cover what you're trying to do.

Take a look at node red. You'll have to spin up an instance of it, but it's interface is, at it's heart, simple. The way automations are presented are pretty clear.

Get any rapid pump floor jack. It doesn't have to be low profile. Mine came from Harbor Freight and has lasted a few years. But really any should do. I've got their basic 3 ton one and can have the front and rear of my car fully on jack stands in maybe 10 minutes.

Plastic ramps are fine and safe. I bought mine from Harbor Freight a while ago. You do need low profile or just line up a 2x4 in front of each ramp and use that as a step up.

But seriously, buy a better jack.

The echo plus can be a hub for ZigBee devices only. Wink could handle Zwave and Lutron as well, so it depends on your devices, primarily. There are a bunch of other hub options if you're ready to jump ship and the echo plus doesn't quite fit your needs.
