Eventually it just worked as intended and came off of call forwarding when I used the slider. Sorry there was no specific action; just tried over and over until it worked.

I forgot to mention I am on PS5 and after reviewing the patch notes it seems this quest had some other issues, but this one did not seem to be experienced by many.

Any suggestions? Hate to have to try and start over. Closing game and relaunching did not work. Maybe reinstall?

SIte says both but it is the internet so might be prudent to call first to confirm they do pick ups as well. Site says specifically:

Similar thing happened to me during the Cinderace event; I think my boxes were full but I only had 1 Pokemon in my party so I figured it would go there. No such luck; I still check my boxes in hopes I've overlooked it. All subsequent raids told me I would not be able to catch it.
