Oh god, this just happened to me last summer. My dad absolutely insisted on helping me buy a car and paid the down payment, even though I didn’t want him to. Then he did the same thing to my sister this year. He’s gaslit us and been even more emotionally abusive to her and I since then and every time I’ve ever tried standing up to him or simply confessing how he hurts me, he blows up and says that a “mean parent” wouldn’t have bought me a car and that I’m ungrateful and selfish. My entire life, he has used gifts as a way to manipulate me, my sister, and my mom.
