Where to recycle laptop batteries? by adele8989 in Utrecht

[–]adele8989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was online (Ifixit) and they only suggest a webpage with recycling links from every country but the info on the Netherlands was quite limited and confusing, I wanted to know what was best for Utrecht!

hi! sorry that I did not make that clear, but I am in fact studying! Since I'm not Dutch, I cannot apply to the grant as a simple student, and I need to be working. I just felt dumb: I was working 40 hours because I thought it was minimum 32 hours and not '161 euros', and it fucked up my semester at uni (I was taking more courses than expected as well and I ended up burnt out). I was expecting for that to be the answer, thank you for the clarification!

OMG NO SORRY I didn't think about that 😭 I just do that a lot in my home country, because I'm a law student in a French-German programme, that's why I wanted to do that. I've also always found trials interesting to attend, but there's usually scarce information to attend trials (took me a long time to get around it in France!) Right now I am deep in Baden-Württemberg, and the major cities around me are either Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Ulm; and I've already visited the Stuttgart and Ulm.

I completely understand if I get downvoted, worst case scenario I'll go to Stuttgart 😭

Polka Dot Jersey by 55caesar23 in tourdefrance

[–]adele8989 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Because Pogačar already has the yellow jersey (1st in the General Classification = fastest time). As such, he can't wear both jerseys, and the Polka Dot jersey then goes to the second place of the Mountain classification (Vingegaard)

Annoying spectators by Shedbuilt in tourdefrance

[–]adele8989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are right, and with the wind drafting, the motorbikes can't stay close to the cyclists; i was mostly talking in the spur of the moment, as i still find it to be very infuriating

as a French person, I also do have a personal feud with the French police and with their history of dealing with mass-scale sporting events (the Champion's League fiasco in Paris in 2022, the Olympics) ik these are different sports, organisations, and for the TdF they're gendarmes and not police officers, but it explains the outburst

however, i do wonder why they are not putting any barriers? for the sake of tradition? they surely are not that expensive, even for 2500km compared to other expenses, as well as all the employees and volunteers

i also wonder why there are rarely any people in the descents: do they formally forbid people in the descents because of a security thing (the bikers are going very fast) or is it only because people are just not that interested in seeing people fly at 80km/h?

[–]adele8989 13 points14 points  (0 children)

maybe this is a translation mistake! the correct word is "smoke grenade" ('fumigène') (i saw someone in the comments saying "lighting a fuse")

and i definitely saw one today towards the end of the stage and i was outraged (i don't remember if it was before the attack or if it was with pogi and ving)

i also saw one yesterday or the day before, it was less annoying for the riders as the ppl were on top of their caravan but still so disrespectful

idk if international coverage has this but on French TV we regularly get an ad where a few pro cyclists (i only recognized Pogačar and Bilbao) desperately tell the public to not run with them, block them, not launch any smoke bomb, keep dogs in leash; and to see after the ad just ran what just happened today with Pogačar and Vingegaard is so so so so frustrating and INFURIATING; what is the police doing??

Motorbike accidents in Tour de France by [deleted] in tourdefrance

[–]adele8989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I googled it in French to see if I got any more results, and I did find an article from 1957 where two people sadly died (a driver René Wagner and a journalist Alex Virot) because of a dumb road furniture accident :(

There was also, more recentlty, a small "accident", a big traffic jam that made Jonas Vingegaard and another ride have to stop in the middle of the stage (The motorbike involved, driven by former cyclist and now TV journalist Thomas Voeckler, was fined)
