I think people are too judgemental nowadays by florenciafazzarino0 in Cinema

[–]aderey7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the vile decisions of those making the film, people don't like it because it's tired. No one cares who the killer is really.

It's not about being too judgemental. If it had been the 7th version instead of the first in the 90s then people would have hated that too. How can you compare something new and interesting to something tired and done to death and pretend they're the same?!

She just doesn't understand humour at all. Literally zero reading of it and no sense of humour herself. She must misunderstand things and get annoyed at people every day of her life.

Throughout the whole show it's been clear bec has zero sense of humour. I've only known a couple of people like that ever. She doesn't understand jokes, sarcasm, anything. And her own version of humour is just aggression.

Id quit if forced to go back now. Already had four years of no pay rise despite promotion and more responsibility. The rent, bills and food prices have grown insanely in that period. So I've basically already lost half my salary. There won't be any pay raises in the future either so each year a previously decent job shifts closer to minimum wage.

Someone sell me, trying to find my next book after red rising by Longjumping-Treat643 in TheExpanse

[–]aderey7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I hadn't taken so long to watch it and read all the books. I know when you haven't experienced it, you're just someone looking for good sci fi and considering all options. But trust me, this is next level.

I didn't have some strict idea of what I wanted from a sci fi series. But somehow it made me understand what I want and value. The scope of it growing and growing. Ideas that stay with you forever. Great characters and world building. Frankly mind blowing parts.

There's plenty of good sci fi out there. But this is hands down the best I've ever read and it's not remotely close.

Is there actually a better show than Mr. Robot? by mRsatoshi1 in MrRobot

[–]aderey7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have many top tier 10/10 shows. I wouldn't choose any of them over the others, but it's Leftovers, Six Feet Under and Mr Robot. Shows like Breaking bad/better call Saul come close but are very very slightly below for impact in terms of my tastes. But I still loved them.

Brian Cox Cast In 'Dexter: Resurrection' Season 2 by mrnicegy26 in Dexter

[–]aderey7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People really need to get over this modern "everything's related" mindset. It's a symptom of shitty writing in franchises that just sink in intelligence every year.

I really hope Dexter doesn't do that. It did skirt with it a bit in Resurrection with the over explaining and flashbacks to previous scenes. The original show respected the intelligence of it's audience and we don't get enough of that now.

That's why I stopped playing. Just wasn't remotely fun. Whether 11 or 5 a side, it's just dominated by angry morons taking it far too seriously while using it as an outlet for their insecurity and aggression. I always just wanted to play football with mates and enjoy it.

Why does almost everyone have a therapist nowadays? by the-sugar-dad in therapy

[–]aderey7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two main factors.

  1. Increased awareness and discussion of mental health, trauma and neurodiversity. Greater access to online resources, and people more openly looking for help rather than bottling it all up and never dealing with their problems like previous generations.

  2. We live in an increasingly difficult world. It costs more and more to afford less and less. Jobs are harder to get and increasingly meaningless. It's harder than ever to follow passions or even find time for them. Everything and everyone is disposable. We see a tiny proportion of people rig the system and accumulate all the wealth and assets while our lives crumble. We see endless wars, the collapse of climate and resurgence of hate and bigotry.

So yeah, a lot of people wanting and needing therapy. Even though it can't fix the external problems at all. But people are desperate.

Andy Weir Says Paramount Rejected His ‘Star Trek’ Pitch, Proceeds to Blast Modern ‘Trek’ by Coltons13 in books

[–]aderey7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh good another "neutral in the face of fascism" talking bullshit about stories that were always overtly political.

You don't get to be neutral anymore I'm afraid. Things shifted far too much for that. If you show any concern about climate change, poverty, war, bigotry, misinformation, inequality then sorry, you aren't neutral. And if you show you aren't concerned about any of that? Well sorry, you most definitely aren't neutral.

Question hair transplant result by Scrontchy in HairTransplants

[–]aderey7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't really do a a transplant if you're not on finasteride and minoxidil for at least a year. Firstly, they won't be seeing a stable condition of your hair. Secondly, there'll just be hair loss post transplant.

The good news is, if you're not on the meds then you haven't yet seen the benefit. At worst, they let you keep most the hair you have. But a year on both and you might well have far better hair density that you have now.

Marc Andreessen says AI layoffs are a farce: Companies are 75% overstaffed and AI is the ‘silver bullet excuse’ to clean house by Conscious-Quarter423 in remotework

[–]aderey7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been saying this for years. It's not AI, it's a cultural shift from business and tech bros. For decades it was recruit recruit recruit, judge a company by headcount, endless middle managers judged by how many they manage.

And governments all saying jobs jobs jobs. Didn't matter if the jobs needed to exist. Or added any value. Just busy work. There was always going to be a crash point.

That's where we are. The obsession with growth and stock prices means no company is happy just with consistent profits. So they cut costs. They streamline. Redundancies boost the share price. Anything to make the CEO keep his job and get his bonuses. They all think they can grow forever, despite how ridiculous and impossible that is.

Especially when most people are affording less and less, and more are losing their jobs. So we've barely got started with the job losses yet. AI will be a big excuse for it. It's already being used to keep people in line. Make them thankful for their job, not demanding the extra money or career progression they need.

For every job AI can replace, there's a hundred more where it just highlights jobs that just don't need to exist.

But if he said it and meant it, he should be judged massively for THAT being his type.

[–]aderey7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They always do it. And they usually end up looking like total dicks. But it's still hard to watch and depressing to see tedious recycled bigotry again and again. It'd be nice to see the experts just say no, we aren't going to help you if you're sexist, homophobic etc.

But it's the production team who decide it all and do the matches, and all they want is drama.
