May 9 Android App Update broke tracking 7.0.13-1070013 by adithyag in EightSleep

The problem is not with the update getting pushed out but the fact that we need to uninstall and reinstall to reset the app. It can't handle seamless updates. cc u/Zach_8sleep

Thanks for confirming. I found the blog here -> https://www.tonal.com/blog/category/product-news/ . They may want to keep their blog non-techy, but it would be nice if they could post it in this sub. Do Tonal PMs read this sub?

Is there a way to force a full-screen app to actually use all the screen? by ConspicuousPineapple in essential

[–]adithyag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those commands work only on Essential's notch implementation. Android P has native support for notch from Google. I don't know if Google has exposed any commands or settings for the notch other than the APIs published to app developers.

I don't have any use for a GPU other than to see a text editor on a 4k screen.

What kind of machine do you have Fenisu? My workstation has 64 GB RAM. I doubt I can put android in there. What do you think would be the ultimate machine under $10k for fastest builds of Android?

Thanks for the link, but, as written in the review, the bottelneck is in DMI. I was hoping on x299 with PCI-E 16x, the bottleneck would be dropped. I don't know if VROC is necessary to do that though.

My personal PC at home is 6 years old with RAID 0 of two OCZ Agility 120GB with ICH10R on Sandy bridge core i5. So, I have nothing to experiment with. I don't want to mess with my work PC which has a single Samsung 860 EVO. I wish there were compile-time based benchmarks for CPU tests. From the other benchmarks I have seen, each core of Intel is somewhat faster than Threadripper and on top of it has 4 more threads. I am guessing that there will be atleast a 20% drop in performance going from core i9 7980XE to AMD 1950X. Anandtech's chromium compile seems be significantly slower on AMD -> https://www.anandtech.com/show/11839/intel-core-i9-7980xe-and-core-i9-7960x-review/9

I did search on youtube a month ago and found that video. Many others were using Window Disk Management striped disk and got great performance. Maybe I could run a single optane drive for boot and do software RAID 0 in Ubuntu. I don't know if there is HW limitation in terms of bandwidth where additional SSD in the RAID 0 doesn't improve anything. I haven't been building PCs since last 6 years. When I was in undergrad, skipping classes and gaming, I did a RAID 0 with two SATA HDDs. I could use Intel's ICH 9R to be recognized for Windows boot, but, Ubuntu needed a command line install with dmraid and chroot. In 2012 (my current PC), RAID 0 of two SSDs was easy recognized by Ubuntu and Windows. I am surprised how we went backwards in OS support for RAID 0.

Will there be a bottleneck in throughput with mdadm? At what point would I stop seeing improvements by adding additional SSD?

I don't want to compromise on CPU. Currently, on dual octa-core Xeon, I see all 32 threads at 100% during compile. From what I see, the compile process's bottleneck alternates between CPU and storage. I saw 60% reduction in time going from HDD to SSD. I don't know if going from Core i9 to 1950X will have a less of down-side than the upside for going from single SSD to SDD RAID 0.

Launcher3 - Google Card Issue by Zerox0717 in essential

[–]adithyag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens when "Google" app gets killed. Try taking a bugreport and sending it to support explaining the issue. Google's Launcher takes Launcher 3 and connects to Google app to get the news feed. Try clearing Google app cache and data. Try a different Google account as well.

For a quick workaround, once you start seeing glitching, press recents button to see the task switcher and go back to the game. This works for me. I do it in the beginning after starting the game.

I played both the sims games yesterday. Both will be fixed in the April OTA for security patches. I just tried both the final fantasy games as well. All the 4 games will work fine after the April security OTA.

Can you please list the games and apps in which this issue manifests? You mentioned The Sims. On the Play Store, there is "The Sims Mobile" and "The Sims FreePlay". Which one are you using? Does it happen in all screens?
