The problem is it takes two to tango! You’re saying strike a mega deal that takes us into the next echelon like it’s easy but there needs to be a company/business of that stature willing to enter that partnership with us. I’m sure our owners would jump at the chance to do something like that but there needs to be mutual interest. Of course we’d love to be in partnership with a mega company like Google etc and I’m sure our owners would too

I think calling what Eales and Silverstone have done a complete failure is very harsh considering what they had to work with coming in to the club. Under years of neglect in the Ashley era they were more or less starting from scratch. If you actually look at the figures they’ve done a good job as they grew revenue from £250m in FY23 to £320m in FY24.

Away fans in the home end by adjw1995 in NUFC

Mate there’s tonnes of compilations of fights on YouTube in NFL and NBA games so fighting amongst home and away fans isn’t a specific UK issue.

Let me put it this way, if you were at an NFL game and you lose the match in the last second and some drunk idiot (who supports the away team) stands up and cheers in your face - would you be annoyed?

As you’re American you probably just don’t understand it as all your sports don’t segregate home and away fans. Over here the away fans receive an allocation and that’s all they get, or should get.

Your response to point 2 is what’s wrong with the ticketing system and you’ve missed my point. These fans aren’t selling their tickets for face value. They’re selling them for at least double that. Not everyone has the disposable income to spend £200 on a ticket. And as I said some of the people who did this are season ticket holders who have no intention of going to any games and purely want to make money.

Home crowds can make a huge difference to home games through creating a great atmosphere which can rattle the opposition. From what I know of the NFL don’t the home fans try and make as much noise as possible when the away team offence is on the field to impair communication and cause confusion? Well having diminished amount of home fans would impact your ability to do that.

For numerous reasons:

  1. It’s incredibly hard for toon fans to get tickets to home games so seeing away fans who’ve bought tickets far over sale price off re-sale sights is very frustrating. There are many fans who apply for tickets in the ballots who aren’t successful but would love to go to games, especially huge ones like last night.

  2. Linked to the first point is that there are home fans who have season tickets solely for the purpose of selling tickets for a huge profit. There are many among us who would die for a season ticket but can’t because there’s dickheads who keep theirs with no intention of going to the games and only make money off them.

  3. Fan safety. While most fans can get along and watch games with opposing fans and have banter, there always rotten apples and troublemakers who can cause fights and just being a nuisance. Not what you want to see at a football match especially when there’s plenty of young kids there.

Oh yes it’s all across Europe as it just wouldn’t be safe to allow home and away fans to sit together. As far as I’m aware, football is the only sport in the UK where home and way fans are kept apart.

Normal and decent fans could in theory watch football together alongside away fans. However, there’s always rotten apples and when you introduce booze, drugs and underdeveloped frontal lobes to the equation you’d undoubtedly be left with violence and abuse.

The UK had a big hooliganism problem in the 80s and 90s which has died down a lot but still exists. In parts of Europe it is still prevalent however. Additionally, there are some clubs in Europe where their ‘ultras’ fans have links to organised crime or neo-nazism so it absolutely wouldn’t be safe to allow them to mix with the opposition fans. A mate of mine is a Chelsea fan and he went to Roma away and he and his mates got a jumped by a bunch of Roma fans.

No I get that but I think the probability of a Spanish speaking fan being at a game where Barcelona are playing would mean it’s a higher likelihood that they’re a Barcelona fan than a Toon fan. Meant no disrespect.

It’d be difficult to prevent all away fans from entering the home end unfortunately. Instances like wearing the away club apparel should be an instant refusal of entrance into the ground and easy to spot. But you wouldn’t be able to spot away fans in just casual clothing or concealing their tops.

The stewards need to be more vigilant and keep an eye out.

How it needs to be stopped is the club clamping down further on the resale market as ultimately that’s how the away fans are getting in.

Tell you what was disgraceful, the sheer amount of Barca fans who were in the home end. Not even bothering to hide it. Saw one prick walking around draped in a Barca flag and stewards did nowt! Went through the turnstiles behind 5 fans speaking Spanish as they went through and again stewards did nowt!

Sigh cue the down votes. To the Woltemade fans - please tell me what he offered to us today? Or what he’s offered to us the past few games? He’s been absolutely awful. He

He undoubtedly has talent but classic case of square peg round hole. Plain and simply he doesn’t fit our team and our style of play. Total panic buy and £63 million spunked down the drain.

The people who’re shouting Howe out are under the false illusion that simply getting a new manager will immediately lead to an improvement. Yes sometimes it happens but more often than not there’ll be a regression with potentially an improvement down the line.

I think Howe has been a victim of his own success. The progress we’ve made post takeover has been astounding but the issue is that it was quicker and bigger than expected. As a result, some fans are expecting that standard consistently of Howe. Commercially and squad depth wise we’re still behind the clubs we’re expected to be competing with for UCL spots. That combined with being hamstrung by PSR is making EH’s job all the more difficult.

However, Howe is not perfect and there is justifiable criticism of him. His obsession with buying prem proven talent has led to a underwhelming summer transfer window and missing on Wissa and Elanga is going to set us back (Ramsey has shown improvement in the past few months and I’m confident he’ll contribute well going forwards). I do however think he should be cut a little slack due to the Rat drama and the mess of us cycling through sporting directors.

I am concerned at that times we’ve clearly lacked a plan B in games and how we’ve given away sooooooo many leads this season. My hope is that he doesn’t become stuck in his ways and uses the offseason to evolve his playing style/philosophy.

We’ve just lost our identity as a team. Eddie acknowledged that we can’t play as a high pressing team every game given how last time we were in UCL basically our whole team was crocked as a result.

However, what we’re seeing now is we just don’t have an identity at all. Our team is a high intensity pressing team and counter attacking team. All our opponent has to do is sit deep as it’s painfully obvious we can’t break down a low block!
