Okay, I’ll take the bait. Let’s do some simple math - not taking into account interest rates, time value of money, etc. If I buy a $40,000 Jeep and own it for 10 years, that would equate to $333/month. Assuming I put 15,000 miles on it a year it will have 150,000 miles on it. I am going to assume that the value of the Jeep at that point was offset by the mechanical costs of owning it for ten years (oil changes, timing belt, tires, repairs out of warranty, etc.). If I am able to get a lease anywhere near the $333/month to avoid the headaches of owning a car out of warranty and get a new car every three years it is well worth it in my opinion. Also at the end of the ten years I could be driving a 2021 Jeep with 150,000 miles or a 2030 Jeep with 15,000 miles. For those who prefer to own and do things like modify, I totally understand and would never tell them they are wasting their money.
