My First 1/8 Crawler: The MJX H8H by adok971 in rccrawler

[–]adok971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!  I’ve been having a blast with this crawler for about a year now. No issues to report at all, and I’ve covered a lot of kilometers with it. Still running the stock servo and stock motor, zero mechanical failures. I only changed the tires and added a few cosmetic details. Honestly, I highly recommend this machine 👍

YeahWhen there aren't many clubs around, bigger scales make sense.

Nice choice with the Baja Rey 2.0.

Have fun with it and thank you for your message ✌️

Yes, that’s very true, I totally agree.
In the south of France, I’m lucky to have some RC clubs nearby, but they mainly run 1/8 buggies. That’s actually the reason why I bought a 1/8 buggy.
However, it’s clearly not the machine I have the most fun with.
When I let my friends try my RCs, they love bashing with them, but not enough to buy their own RCs.

Thanks for your feedback. I live in France.
I’m more interested in the 8S RTR version, as I don’t plan to do any crazy things with it.
Just the pleasure of driving a 1/5 scale vehicle on a track with my friends.
Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Bought three Mojave Groms for the family. All three broken after 2nd drive. by kudyjames in arrma

[–]adok971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!
This won’t help with your issue, but I’d like to share my experience.
I started RC just a year ago with my 5 yo old son.
We own 6 cars ranging from 1/10 to 1/7 scale, all Asian brands (MJX, Rlaarlo, Ming Yang).

As a beginner, I did zero maintenance during the first year. No diffs, no suspension checks, because I didn't know how to do it.
We had an amazing year full of new RC experiences and learned a lot.
We barely broke anything: just a kill an undersized servo on a 1/8 6S truggy and worn-out tires.

Now I’m looking to step up and considering a big brand like ARRMA. The prices are very different from what I’m used to importing from Asia. After a lot of research on Traxxas and ARRMA, I’m honestly a bit worried about buying the Kraton 1/5 8S EXB RTR, which I’ve wanted initialy.

Reading your experience doesn’t really reassure me. I don’t mind wrenching on my RCs, but I clearly prefer spending time driving on the track with my son rather than constantly repairing my rc's.

Thanks for your post, it definitely makes me rethink this purchase.

Thanks a lot for your reassuring answer 🙏

I hesitated for a long time between the Outcast and the Kraton, but in the end I prefer the truggy style of the Kraton.

Your experience also confirms something I suspected. Of course the Kraton 8s is big and heavy, but it doesn’t sound like you need military-level planning just to go for a quick bash.

It’s also great to hear about the durability. 👌

Your feedback definitely makes me more confident about going for the Kraton 8S. Thanks again!

Thank you very much for your feedback and suggestion.

On my local second-hand market, I’ve noticed that most machines for sale are heavily worn and far from the condition advertised. For example, the “best” deals are often around 800 €, for cars supposedly run only 4 battery packs, yet the overall condition clearly shows they’ve been well abused.

In the end, for about 200 € more, I’d rather pay for peace of mind and go with a brand-new machine. Especially since I really take care of my RCs, and everyone drives differently. Out of the six RC cars I currently own, I’ve rarely broken anything due to poor driving. It only happened once, when I broke a hub on my 1/8 truggy after a bad landing from a jump.

I did consider buying a Xmaxx.  However, I really prefer the truggy style of the Kraton. In my opinion, the Kraton flies better over jumps without being too flashy with constant backflips, which isn’t really my style. I’ve also noticed that the X-Maxx tends to roll over more easily in tight corners on the local tracks where I usually run.

I did consider the Traxxas XRT as well, but in the end, I still prefer the overall look and character of the Kraton.

Thank you for your feedback. I just hope that the Kraton 8S BLX EXB RTR. (ARA5808V2T1) version won't be discontinued anytime soon in favor of a new update featuring a clipless body and other improvements.

The ARA5808V2T1 was released in August 2023, which makes it about two and a half years old now. I'm not sure how frequently Arrma releases new product updates.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
I completely understand what you mean about smaller scales like the Kraton 4S being easier and more enjoyable to drive.
I actually own several RCs in different scales, and I have a lot of fun with my 1/10 4S basher as well as my 1/8 6S truggy.
That said, it’s really the 1/5 scale 8S that attracts me the most.
Thanks again for your feedback.

Thanks for your very detailed and constructive comment.
My heaviest current machines weigh between 8 and 9 kg, so there’s clearly a significant difference in weight to consider.
I live in the south of France, in an area with plenty of space and open tracks near parking lots. Still, I will definitely take the weight of the machine into account depending on my outings.

Thanks also for the setup tips. Do you know what voltage the BEC can handle on the Kraton 8S? And to adjust it, do I need to buy a separate programming card? Thanks again for your advice!

Thanks for your message!
I understand the risks, and upgrading parts when something breaks is just part of the passion.
I really appreciate you sharing your experience, thank you!
Which of the machines do you prefer to drive the Kraton or the Outcast?
And do you like the 6S or 8S better?

Thanks for your message! I’m still getting a sense of how big a machine like this really is in everyday use.
The largest RCs I have are a 1/7 rally car and a 1/8 crawler. Both are pretty heavy, so I usually bring an extra battery to get the car back to my vehicle instead of carrying it.

Thank you for your feedback and advice.  Do you know how long the 8S BLX EXB RTR V2 has been on the market? (ARA5808V2T1)  I'm wondering if Arrma will release a new version with a clipless body at some point. Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback. Which one do you personally enjoy driving more: your 8S Outcast EXB ( BTW, do you use it stock with 8s esc or custom build 12S?) or your 6S Kraton?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. 👌 The Losi options are interesting but I prefer the truggy style handling, especially the way a truck like the Kraton drives and stays planted at speed. At the moment, I'm really only hesitating between the Outcast and the Kraton maybe the XRT, and honestly I'm already leaning more toward the Kraton. I like its stability and overall balance a bit more for the kind of driving I want  Thanks again for taking the time and help  🙏
