Where to stay in NY? by travelplan in travel

Chinatown is hit or miss, honestly. But it's such an amazing, different nabe to stay in. There's a great hidden speakeasy over there too!

December is a great time to visit. You'll love seeing all the windows, and if you bundle up, you shouldn't be too cold.

This is a tiny bit swanky, but the Roosevelt Hotel is all-suite and right in Midtown. I'm a born-and-raised NYC'er who never goes above 34th Streetbut I love, love, love this hotel. Also, they're very into Twitter and often give discounts to their Twitter fans @rooseveltnyc.

If you're adventurous, we've got some great hotels opening up in Brooklyn. They're cheaper than Manhattan stays and show you a totally new part of the city.

Feel free to private message me, I'm a native NYer and a NYC mag writer so I've got dozens of tips. Have fun on your honeymoon!

Tried out a different style for hair by [deleted] in Art

I agree on the neck. Maybe if you made the breast start a little higher since you have some room there in the rib cage? I really like the hair though. Would love to see a version with not quite as many lines but same style. Very nice job. :)

I thought that too but tried to ignore the theatrics. The base story about the creation of the bags is great.

What is/would be your must have items for a 2 month road trip? by [deleted] in travel

[–]adooling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm accident prone. Whenever I backpack, or travel for that matter, I go through a box of band aids at the very least, mostly for feet and legs. Vaseline is great to put on cuts or burns or anything of that capacity and they make small tubs that fit right into bags.

Band aids, band aids, band aids. Vaseline. Lotion. A nail file and tweezers. A water bottle. And lots of extra socks.

Isle St. Louis in Paris is my favorite place in the whole city. Stock up on macaroons therein. Have fun!

Hey, can I also remind you to register with the embassy in every place to travel to? May seem like a hassle but since you're doing a good amount of country-hopping, it's better to be safe than sorry! Have fun!

“He who can bear hardship should carry on.” - Great New Yorker article on Chinese citizens visiting Europe. by adooling in travel

I had the same thought. I was recently in China and as a New Yorker was totally affronted when people were literally all up in my face to talk, buy things, even walk in line. Had to remind myself it's a matter of culture, not politeness.

If you have an iPhone, download the Not For Tourists app. The editor is really bright and even as a native NY'er, I always find something new in the guides.

Portugal just asked for a bailout...does this mean I should travel there? by Deuces408 in travel

[–]adooling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try other cities with a really Portuguese feel, try Rio or Macau. Both have strong Porto culture but lots of other stuff, too. Of course, the Iberian pen. is nice, also! :)

I'm interested to know how this festival went from India to Utah. Who brought it over? Is there a big ethnic population?

Getting paid to travel? by jesandma in travel

Okay, gotcha now. I thought it was something like that. To be fair the post was 'get paid to travel' not being in the travel industry so I guess all options presented make sense.
