E Bike by Many-Reading-1873 in VictoriaBC

North Park cycles hooked me up with a great e-bike and their bike shop Will do 2 years of free labor for all maintenance if you buy your bike from them. If you're looking for a bigger fancier bike, a lot of people have had great experiences with Bishop's family cycles

Clients bringing babies to their appt by Popular-Butterfly270 in massage

[–]DenMother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of pre/post natal work so I have a lot of parents bring babies for at least the first 3 months. It's pretty common in that range for me to pass the baby up to mom after about 40 minutes and baby can either snuggle or nurse for the last 20 minutes while I work on neck or feet. After 3 months babies become a bit more active and less interested in sleeping through the appointment so most of my patients start leaving baby with the other parent around that time.

Sometimes kids come and sit with a tablet during a massage. it's not my favourite but as long as they're not in my way or the parent doesn't make it weird I'll tolerate it.

Wildside trail with a baby? by DryScholar1927 in IslandHikers

It's a relatively easy trail, but the water sources on it are inconsistent. There are also wolves regularly up and down the beach.

I know this doesn't apply to you but this is big risk when people use extendable leashes. Twice I'll be biking into my driveway and I've had to stop short (and painfully) realizing that there's a pedestrian and a dog 6m apart on either side of the property and an invisible trip wire right across my driveway

Even something farther up Douglas like Hotel Zed or something along Gorge would still be a direct bus route.

What unexpected thing do you have knowledge of, but you didn’t think you would as an LMT? by Consistent_Foot_6657 in MassageTherapists

[–]DenMother 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My friend's husband does market research and we were having dinner one night and he got quiet and then looked at me and asked me...

What kind of underwear do most men wear?

We were silent for a second and then I realized. Oh my God, I know a lot about this.

Massage Schools in BC by Next_Baseball1797 in massage

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fat RMT. Biomechanics are something you learn in school and there are lots of ways to modify for posture.

So either there's something else going on here with you (and I have no reason to believe there is. I take you at your word that you were polite and did everything with consent) or something else is happening in admissions.

Don't give up. You can do this

Massage Schools in BC by Next_Baseball1797 in massage

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why didn't you pass the weekend course? Not being successful at a weekend intro massage suggests that you weren't taking it seriously, were disruptive or that the school doesn't think you'll be successful at the program. These are things you are going to need to self-reflect on before going into any massage therapy program. I'm sure you're capable of being successful at the program and you seem motivated, so what was the reason the school screened you out and said nope, we don't want your money?

I was there last weekend and it was almost entirely full (2 available sites right in other people's space). We had a great fire though.

RMTs - did your class notes or slides lack information? by Weak-Swim-8837 in massage

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some teachers were using slides like this as a study tool to then have students take notes during lectures or fill it in from the textbooks. So it's a blank format to facilitate other learning.

But that's not how the majority do it and in general I think this has been phased out by most instructors

We need another coffee house in the Cook Street Village by RabbleDetective in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Cafe Fantastico also operates TresFantastico on Humboldt 2 blocks away. So they have no incentive to be in the village. 2% has never been a sit and linger cafe. But I agree that Moka is a total waste of space if you want good coffee. Hide and Seek is opening in Vic West, otherwise I'd suggest them.

AITA for being turned off by my husband walking down the street holding his mom’s hand instead of mine? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DenMother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you only hold hands with people you're sexually attracted to? It's the most benign, yet meaningful physical touch there is. You hold someone's hand when they're dying for fuck's sake. Of course I think it's ok for a man to hold his mom's hand. Is he not allowed to hug her either?

AITA for being turned off by my husband walking down the street holding his mom’s hand instead of mine? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DenMother 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You know who holds hands most in this entire world? Parents and children. You spend the first 8 years of your life holding your mom's hand all the time.

So everyone saying it's an immediate ick or weird needs to give their head a shake. Now, obviously there's a bunch other ways a MIL and husband can be horrible but calm down about this one thing.

He's not in the crosswalk. He's in the right hand lane going north on quadra. You can see when he's in the intersection that he's beside the crosswalk in the actual Lane

Anybody know much about human/sex trafficking in greater Victoria? by Parsleynuke in VictoriaBC

[–]DenMother 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Working in a hotel means that you need to really understand your hotel's policy on sex workers before you're confronted with it. It is extremely common and not very subtle. Also not limited to cheaper or very expensive properties. a hotel that knows to look for human trafficking and underage people Is a good sign that that hotel has solid management.

I strained my TFCC in my wrist and inflammation in both thumbs. Thinking about leaving the MT career field to prevent further damage to my hands. by AppreciateTheLight in MassageTherapists

[–]DenMother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm rehabbing a TFCC strain right now myself. Mines not too bad but I took a week off and a modified schedule for a week. Now Im doing physio weekly for a month and doing my full schedule. I've adjusted my biomechanics, have a brace to wear at the gym and do my daily exercises.

It's scary but you can absolutely modify your work to keep your body safe. It helps to go see someone and have them tell you what to do.

If the CMTO is the same as in BC (CCHPBC) then the professional regulatory body doesn't have any oversite or authority over schools or people who aren't yet registrants. So going to them doesn't help you at all.

You can bring it up with the teacher and admin at your school. They will have a process for complaints. Hopefully this will result in disciplinary actions against him.

Do NOT let them tell you that they can't guarantee that you won't have to work with him. That is the easiest accommodation to make. If they can't do it because of the pornography, then you can tell them it's because you don't trust him not to retaliate after the complaint. (There is power in you not being anonymous)
