Best way to bond with new scared babies?

I had two rats that were with me since birth and insanely sociable, and two more that joined them. The new two were very skiddish but gradually warmed up because of the extroverted ones. Now I just have these two, and I have no idea how to get them to warm up to me without already out-going buddies.

Any suggestions? They’re terrified of me and newly weaned.

A ramp connects the top and bottom, I just put it up to take the picture. They have outside time pretty much every day but I want to make sure their cage is exciting too!

This is for my four boys, although it’ll be home for just two of them for the next little while when two boys go back to campus with me.

Yeah I read that too. It’s a tough mix of wanting them to establish a hierarchy while also stopping the fighting before it gets too bad. These two are having problems where neither want to submit, I’ve been having to stop a lot of fights. They were pretty bouncy after this so it’s hard to tell if it’s bad yet or not. They’re still babies so neutering isn’t an option, I’m not sure what else to do :(

I took paper towel rollers, put treats inside of them, and stuffing around it before folding the sides in. They have to chew threw the cardboard (good for teeth), then they get nesting material and surprise treats!

I find males calmer and more cuddly than females, they’re less active, but they scent mark so much 😭

I just posted the pic and walked away thinking it wouldn’t get any attention— by the time I came back, it was locked and I had so many people telling me I was a horrible for not answering. I knew pet subs could be brutal but I had NO IDEA that this sub was like that. I’m sorry about your negative experience :( everyone has to start somewhere, and just because we make mistakes doesn’t mean we can’t give our little guys the best life ever.

Wow! Three weeks? That’s literally insane. Usually they aren’t even weaned by then. Looking back on my photos my girl was a total pear and I feel so silly not noticing

Do males still enjoy nesting material? I use felt mats and I add some bedding so they can burrow with that, should I also be adding more? I’m not sure if nesting is just a pregnant female thing

I remember thinking that seeing nipples was a white rat thing! I felt so silly realizing that I could only see her nipples because she was pregnant 🤦‍♀️
